Matt Smith spoke to DigitalSpy at the opening night of Doctor Who Live last Friday, and was full of nothing but praise for Steven Moffat when pressed on the forthcoming series, which is currently being filmed.
“It’s going great,” he revealed. “We’ve just had the read-through this morning for Episodes 1 and 2, which are brilliant. We’ve filmed a couple of others and I think we’ve got off to a really good start. We’ve got some great cast coming in and guesting – I’m excited!”
About the showrunner, he said: ”Steven’s mad, fantastical mind is winding off in all sorts of brilliant directions!” You can watch the Q&A for Gambon and Gaiman teasers below:
Yesterday the BBC confirmed that Series 6 will open with a two-parter set in the US.
The London Evening Standard has posted a new interview with Matt Smith in which he talks about Christmas special guest-star Sir Michael Gambon.
Gambon, recognised for his portrayal of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series, will be appearing as a ‘Scrooge-like miser’ in the festive episode, and Smith has praised him for his ‘naughty’ sense of humour on set. He joked: “I’ve got a total man-crush on him. He’s cool. He’s fun. Gambon’s quite a naughty man, and I’m mischievous, too.”

The Daily Star’s latest rumour is that Katherine Jenkins will be seen singing in this year’s Christmas special.
The Welsh opera singer will reportedly peform a love song specially written by series composer Murray Gold.
A ’source’ told the tabloid: “We have never had anyone burst into song on Doctor Who. It’s a TV first for us. This will send ratings sky high.” What do you think? As always, take the speculation with a pinch of salt!
It’s possible that the report has been based on Katherine’s recent comments, here.

Katherine Jenkins has revealed that she thoroughly enjoyed filming this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.
The opera singer will be guest-starring in the festive episode but, as Virgin Media reports, has told BANG Showbiz that she felt out of place on set. “I thought it was something I would love to do, but I didn’t know if I was really capable,” she explained. “It’s kind of one of those things where you think, ‘How am I in this? [Michael Gambon] is an amazing actor, what am I doing working with him?’”
She teased: “It’s been so much fun. I can’t tell you if I sing in it. I literally can’t say anything. I’m tightly bound by confidentiality agreements. I don’t want to spoil it!”

The Metro has a new interview with Matt Smith in which he discusses the exciting times that lie ahead for Doctor Who!
At the top of the agenda is Series 6, which as we type is being filmed in Cardiff. As ever, things are shrouded in secrecy, however Matt did have this to say about one of its Steven Moffat-penned stories… “God, I wish I could tell you the other thing he’s just written, which is just mind-blowing. I think he’s delivered his best script yet. I can’t say anything about it, but it’s bloody brilliant.’
Before we get to see it, we’ve got this year’s Christmas special to enjoy, and the Eleventh Doctor actor has reassured us that it’s full of “lots of snow and twinkly lights”!
He explained: “We’ve got Michael Gambon playing a Scrooge-like miser with a time travelling twist - and I think it’s really, really good. I think it’s full of the right heart and soul for the season. Steven has, once again, written something brilliant.”
Regarding Neil Gaiman’s anticipated Series 6 episode, he teased: “It’s going to be a real one for the Who fans, I think they’re going to love it.” We think we are too!

This week’s issue of Radio Times includes an exclusive interview with Katherine Jenkins about her role in this year’s Christmas special.
“I’ve not done any acting before, so I wasn’t sure if I even could,” the Welsh opera singer told the magazine. “But I read for the part and on my 30th birthday, they called to say I’d got it. Matt Smith and Michael Gambon – who’s also in the episode – have been really encouraging. I can’t wait to see the results.”
She continued: “I surprised myself. I never thought years ago that I’d want to act. I learned so much from simply watching [Michael], and he was always telling great stories about all the actors he’s worked with – Matt and I would sit and listen to him for hours.”
You can read the interview in the latest Radio Times, out now at its usual price of £1.10.
Danny Horn – who will be appearing in Doctor Who this Christmas - has spoken to The Telegraph & Argus about his role in the special.
He told them: ”It’s been like a bizarre dream. I finished the Central School of Speech and Drama on the Friday, had the audition on the Monday and by Thursday I was filming in Cardiff. I was very excited about the audition but didn’t think I’d get it. It took a month to film and I’ve been up and down to Cardiff. It’s a relatively good part.”
The actor revealed that his character spends most of the story with singer Katherine Jenkins, who will be making her acting debut in the episode. “We were together for a lot of the episode,” he said. ”Let’s just say I might be a bit of a hero with the boys.”
He finished: “Working with Michael was fantastic as he’s one of my heroes, and Matt is brilliant to work with - absolutely fantastic.” The special is due to air on Christmas Day.

Karen Gillan has revealed that there’s plenty of heartache on the menu in this year’s Christmas special.
Speaking to the Daily Mail at a signing event of the Amy Pond action figure in Glasgow earlier today, she teased: “It’s really funny but it’s also heartbreaking and you get a glimpse into Amy and Rory’s honeymoon, which is an interesting one.” She also promised that “a really, really scary” monster will be appearing in the festive episode, which wrapped filming in Cardiff earlier this month.
However, the actress remained tight-lipped when pressed on her future in the series. “Who knows?” she said. “I’m just taking it series by series and I’m just having fun.”

Matt Smith has told DigitalSpy that fans won’t be left disappointed by this year’s Christmas special, which recently finished filming in Cardiff.
He told the website: “I think it’s going to be brilliant. The Doctor meets this old Christmas miser, played by Michael Gambon. He was just brilliant. Perfect for Doctor Who. What a Doctor he’d have made in his day! I always wanted to do a Christmas episode. It’s a real milestone, so I’m very pleased to have got one in the can.”
In the interview, the actor also discusses last month’s Doctor Who Proms, which he describes as one of the “seminal moments” of his career. “It’s not like when you’re doing a play and it’s press night and you think ‘Oh God, what on Earth are they going to write?’,” he explained. ”The audience just wants you to be cool and Doctor-y. I loved it.”
