Sarah Jane Smith’s back! So’s Luke! So’s Rani! So’s Clyde! And so are our discussions!

For the next 6 weeks, the gang will be brightening up our otherwise dark and cold winter nights with their traditional array of laughs, scares and monsters we’ve come to expect - and we’ll be meeting and greeting a host of new and old friends and foes along the way.

PART 1 - Sarah Jane’s adopted son, Luke, faces life-changing events on Monday and Bannerman Road will never be the same again when he has his first nightmare and is haunted by a dark figure from his dreams. A strange entity is reaching out to our world, with terrible consequences for the whole human race.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start at the very beginning (it’s a very good place to start!), so here we present to you our very first Series 4 discussion for the very first Series 4 story, THE NIGHTMARE MAN, which began earlier tonight on CBBC.

As we’ll all be tuning in for Sarah Jane at different times this year, we’ll just be having one discussion for each story which you can add to whenever you’ve watched the latest episode. That way we can keep things looking nice and tidy and keep all the comments with their relevant posts, and it also makes it much easier for you to have your say!

PART 2 - With Luke, Clyde and Rani trapped in a bizarre dreamscape, Sarah Jane must fight alone. As the Nightmare Man grows stronger, only K-9 might hold the key, but can Luke summon the courage to face his adult life before the whole world becomes trapped in an endless nightmare?

So, without much further ado, let us know what you thought of THE NIGHTMARE MAN!

Did it have all the makings of a series opener, or were you disappointed with its tale?

Happy discussing folks! Avoid the the comments if you haven’t watched any of it yet!

    Slight plot hole… as an Oxford applicant, I know that if you get in, you tend to start your courses in October. In fact, my friend started his course today, and went up to settle in last Monday, the fourth of October.

    But who cares about that? I thought the story was brilliant. Quite scary (my pre-school teacher mother keeps muttering about ‘her’ children watching this) and very emotional. AND we got K9 and Mr Smith sniping, which is always brilliant.

    Oh, I’m going to miss Luke. He’s our favourite character, chez moi. I wonder what he’s reading at uni. Something to do with physics, d’you reckon?

    Yeah, he’ll be doing physics or astro physics or something…

    I wanna do physics at uni, but I think that there’s a bigger chance of seeing a pink dalek… wearing bunny ears than me getting in Oxford…

    Brilliant!!! Just a brilliant opening episode! Was not what I expected from a sja series opener. It was quite complex and dark for sja- if this sort of story was used in Torchwood I would understand it- but I felt like it was a good move for the series. It was also a really creepy and scary episode. Just everything about it was good…even the comedy spot with luke telling sarah jane his oxford news while tied to a bomb! lol

    I loved the opening episode. It was scary for SJA; quite unique from all the other opening episodes of SJA. I loved the emotional scenes and the fighting between Mr Smith and K-9 of course.
    Tommy Knight acted really well in this, best I’d ever seen him act. Oh, and I’m really going to miss him! Can’t wait till today’s ep. Only an hour and a bit to go!
    Love the Nightmare Man

    Well, just watched “The Nightmare Man” a little while ago, and all I can say is ‘Wow!’

    Until now, the only SJA episode I had ever seen before was “The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith” (for reasons I’m sure you can guess :) )– and, again, this year I had only originally planned on watching the story with the Doctor in it. But when the synopses were released, they looked so good I decided to just go ahead and watch the whole series– and right now I am so glad I did, because “The Nightmare Man” was *fantastic*!!! Can’t wait to see the rest of the season now…

    @SJAseries4isthebest!
    It was fantastic.
    His acting was. And don’t fear, he is coming back for guest appearances.

    @Tony
    Thank goodness! It wouldn’t be the same without Luke. Not to mention they’d have to change their oh-so-cheesy pre-titles sequence with Clyde’s V/O.

    @TSG
    Well, he’s apparently in Part 1 of ‘The Vault of Secrets’ next week and has another webcam appearacne (Not saying when though) and a full appearance in either ‘Lost in Time’ or ‘Goodbye Sarah Jane Smith’ (I’m guessing he’s back for the finale since it’s an big powerful story plus the clip of him in the chessy opening intro seems to fit with one of Rani’s later on in the intro [the one with her in makeup])
