Russell promises “strong” return for Torchwood
Russell T Davies has reassured fans that the new series of Torchwood will still be the show we all know and love, despite the fact it will see the characters bidding farewell to their established South Wales surroundings.
Speaking to BBC News earlier today, he revealed: “There will still be Cardiff action on your screens, but the story now takes the team to America and to some other countries as well. It’ll be good, human, strong stories at the heart of this. Nevermind the travel, it’s still about people!”
However, the spin off’s creator remained tight-lipped when pressed on the identites of the “new faces” who are set to join the cast ensemble. He admitted: “There’s some more UK signings to come, and there’s a new American cast as well. That’s part of the fun of the script - the culture clash. This is gonna be the Americans puzzling at the Welsh, the Welsh not knowing what’s going on in America… Lots of fun to be had!”
At the end of the interview, the former Doctor Who showrunner comments on Series 5, praising “the glorious new age” of Matt and Karen, noting he’d extend it to 20 episodes a year if he could! He said: “The greatest responsibility the team have now is getting me a disc out to Los Angeles, which I watch every Saturday and love.”
Are you happy the Torchwood team will live to fight another day? Let us know here!
I think the scripted “culture clash” might counteract the fears that many Whovians have of an actual, disastrous culture clash from this half-American series 4.
I only hope that the cultural differences are subtle, and don’t rely on the huge stereotypes that we usually see when Brits and Americans are compared.
At any rate, I’m excited to see it!
I am so looking forward to Russell T.’s writing style again. Good luck can’t wait.
what? what? what?
then I rather have a parallel torchwood with 10.5 and rose, didn’t she work for torchwood when she got separated from 10?
oh well, just have to see how it all plays out. rtd and jg better make it good.
