Silences, Rivers and Songs – Series 6 discussion

It was in The Eleventh Hour we were first told of the mysterious silence, but we’re still no closer to finding out what it is, or, more importantly, what’s behind it…

Steven Moffat has promised us that all of our questions will be answered in Series 6, and we’ve been left with plenty of clues to dissect until it hits our screens! What ominous figure could possibly blow up the TARDIS, and what could be their motives for doing it? We’ve also heard what’s seemingly their voice – does it sound at all familiar?

Could it have anything to do with River Song, who’s identity we’ll also discover next year? In The Big Bang she told the Doctor that everything will change when he finally learns who she is – not the most inviting of prophecies, and we’re sure you’ve all got your own weird and wonderful theories whizzing aimlessly through your Doctor Who obsessed minds. So, it’s about time we gave you somewhere to share them, isn’t it?

Feel free to speculate the remaining nights until Christmas away on this post, a link to which will be posted on the sidebar so you can check back to see what our other visitors make of this ever-growing series arc. People say silence is a virtue, but something tells us things will be far from virtuous for the Doctor when this particular one takes over…

Okay, this is my River Song theory. it’s a bit far fetched, but does make sense when you think about it. So, River is Amy’s daughter. As a child, she was the one in the spacesuit who killed the doctor in “The Impossible Astronaut”. Amy didn’t remember her child because she was looking at those creatures that you only remember while you see them (are they named? if not, i think they should be called Kylis)the whole time, during labor too.

river song and amy pond are related in some way. the first time river met amy was when the that spaceship crashed that had the weeping angels on board (the bisantium). and there was a forest! “the only water in the forest is the river” know this could mean the forest of android trees in that ep, or it could be a reference to the forest of books where the vashda narada live. Also river and pond are both to do with water. When the doctor falls from the sky and meets river song she said he knew everything about her like who her mum is possibly. I dont think that the little girl is a younger version of river, i think it may be jenny, the doctors daughter.

I do not think that River and Amy are related. I mean, it’s POSSIBLE that River is Amy’s daughter, but River is black, so that makes no sense. Even in Doctor Who, genetics applies. The most likely thing is that the little girl is Jenny. But, then, River could not be the little girl. Either way, she would remember being that little girl, so that wouldn’t make sense. If anything, we should be asking what is up with the Silence? Why were they trying to build a TARDIS? Why did they have the little girl. “The Silence will fall” to me was an allusion not to silence itself falling but “The Silence” being defeated. So, those are related. BUT, are they related to River’s backstory? Maybe. Maybe not. i think, more likely, she kills Rory, Rory being the best man she ever knew.

Dr- “You cant archive something that hasnt happened yet?” Idris- “You cant, but I can!”

It could be that the TARDIS might ’save’ something that hasnt happened yet, or someone, like the computer in the silence in the library.

Or it could be me being way off mark!

thats a good point the TARDIS mite have even double saved river songs death so she can come back to live and not die in the silenc in the libary story

I didnt think of it like that. The TARDIS could have also done it to the doctor in the future before he gets killed during his regeneration.
If the 1200+ Doctor informs the current doctor of an issue, and has the current one kill the older doctor, but then save a version of himself in the future, it might stop the final ‘final’ death of the doctor which we saw a few weeks back!

ya thats also a very good point u just made as well cos the doctors futre self died but warned the younger doctor about what happened and the doctor was able to avoid the problem and save himself in the big bang

    @The Nurse

How do you mean River is black? She’s not black…

All these theories are so interesting! But I too think that having both River and Pond as names is a bit.. fishy, they have to be related somehow.

(This may have already been mentioned but I don’t really want to go back and read 453 comments :) )

A friend of mine pointed out that River doesn’t *actually* die in Forest of the Dead- she’s saved to the computer core! So… That might change things! (Or not. Not sure really)

I haven’t been a fan for very long, just last year (don’t judge me) and I was just thinking, if Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill were leaving (Karen’s doing a movie and Arthur’s doing a stage thing I think) we’d know wouldn’t we?
