Silences, Rivers and Songs – Series 6 discussion
It was in The Eleventh Hour we were first told of the mysterious silence, but we’re still no closer to finding out what it is, or, more importantly, what’s behind it…
Steven Moffat has promised us that all of our questions will be answered in Series 6, and we’ve been left with plenty of clues to dissect until it hits our screens! What ominous figure could possibly blow up the TARDIS, and what could be their motives for doing it? We’ve also heard what’s seemingly their voice – does it sound at all familiar?
Could it have anything to do with River Song, who’s identity we’ll also discover next year? In The Big Bang she told the Doctor that everything will change when he finally learns who she is – not the most inviting of prophecies, and we’re sure you’ve all got your own weird and wonderful theories whizzing aimlessly through your Doctor Who obsessed minds. So, it’s about time we gave you somewhere to share them, isn’t it?
Feel free to speculate the remaining nights until Christmas away on this post, a link to which will be posted on the sidebar so you can check back to see what our other visitors make of this ever-growing series arc. People say silence is a virtue, but something tells us things will be far from virtuous for the Doctor when this particular one takes over…
But,in the sound of drums, didn’t the Doctor say that he would realise if someone was a Time Lord/Lady? She might be ‘arched’ though.
RE : Patrick
Yeah I have a horrible horrible feeling, that’s possibly what’s going to happen, or more likely that she’s a female version of the Valeyard. It occured to me whilst rewatching Amy’s Choice – so probably a similar thought process. And theres the time differential from Time Crash, which means the past Doctor isn’t able to tell his future incarnations… which would probably include a Valeyard type character. Plus it’s the sort of thing Steven Moffat might do! I’d be surprised if Steven Moffat would be so obvious as to make her his mother.
There is one other possibility… that it’s the Doctor’s orginal wife… the grandmother of Susan… hmm I like that thought lol
I HAVE GOT IT, WHY DIDN’T ANYONE THINK OF IT,
DAVROS
I think the absolute worst thing they could do , would be to make it the doctor from the future , if and when he regenerated into a woman , there not that crazy are they?
i have a feeling that River might be the doctors daughter, it makes sense she said at the end of the episode “the doctors daughter” that she was going to travel the universe saving civilisations and planets, and find her dad, but the flirtatious comments dont really fit, oh well still a possibility.
@Sean
Your right listen to a clip of him speaking then the “silence will fall” clip , exactly the same
although i am quite disappointed its the darleks again :/ bit obvious to be honest , im relying on steven moffat to surprise me and make this an episode that will always be remembered im sure he’ll deliver.
Maybe the silence is a person/ being in its own right.
@Last of the timelords
That is an interesting point about River being the daughter. But that’s the difference. A daughter wouldn’t flirt with their father but River does and the last time we see her in the Big Bang that conversation with the Doctor about her being married.
To anyone who thinks River is related to the Doctor, listen to the Series 5 commentaries. SM himself says something to the effect that it’s disturbing anyone would think River is the Doctors mom because of all the flirting. Now if SM thinks there is too much flirting for River to be the doctors mom, I think you can assume it’s too much flirting for her to be Jenny or Susan.
Just re-watched Amy’s choice, and realized that the Doctor blew up the TARDIS. Now I know its supoosed to be in a dream sequence, but still … we know someone is supposed to blow up the TARDIS. What if there’s more to this dream?
@Mike A
But the Doctor revealed that both were dreams neither were real as there is no such thing as a cold sun and that the Dream Lord conceded something he must not do. Also the Doctor revealed that the Dream Lord gave out hints and riddles that it was the evil side of the Doctor. So the Doctor had to blow up the TARDIS.
@Mike A
and
@Patrick
It could be a big hint though, pointing to the theories of others.
nah, she is either a) Romana or b) the Rani
Romana – Rani. Don’t think so. To the new audeince watching, these characters mean nothing. If River is revealed as Rani, audience will say .. Hah.. whose’s Rani.
I’m starting to think this dream sequence in Amy’s choice is very significant. I’ve realized that in the Silence in the library story, we also had Donna living a dream life, and River’s mind or soul ends up in that artifical world. I’m guessing that when Moff wrote Silence in The Library, he perhaps knew he might be taking over show, so he probably set the seeds for his story arc. I think its time to re-watch River’s first story.
i just cant wait to see what happens in series 6 i hope they bring back the vale yard to mix things up a bit
@Patrick
yea i realize this, not really a possibility now ive thought it over
