BBC Worldwide have confirmed that a brand new magazine dedicated to all things Doctor Who will be launching in North America in the spring!

Doctor Who Insider will be a monthly magazine including exclusive cast and crew interviews, behind the scenes features, original character and monster guides, news and pictures from Doctor Who fandom, as well as in-depth reviews and features. Each edition will cost $6.99, and the first issue will be available to buy from April 7th 2011.

“We are delighted to be launching Doctor Who Insider in North America,” said Mike Riddell, Managing Director of Panini UK. “Doctor Who has always been a strong performer for Panini UK and we are excited to collaborate with BBC Worldwide and BBC America and build on its increasing popularity in the US and Canada.”

What’s the point when we have Doctor Who Magazine?

Why not just make “Doctor Who Magazine” more readily available? As it is, it’s takes about a month and a half after it’s British release date for a DWM to show up on the shelves of American Bookstores which bother to carry the mag. (Sometimes, an issue never shows up. Certainly not the specials.) I order DWM online which carries an additional $5.00 US postage rate. Not to mention, this is America. We don’t have too much money over here to be spending on “luxuries”. I honestly don’t have the money to be spending on two DW magazines every month. I’ll have to skip this new mag.

Re: Professor Zed. Comic book shops get DWM about 2-3 weeks before the newsstands. It’s still a month after the UK, but it’s an improvement. And most shops will special order it if you set up a file. I feel for people who don’t have the funds for “luxuries” but with people lining up to buy iPads and the latest Xbox 360 games all the time, I find it hard to believe they can’t or won’t shell out a few dollars for a magazine if they want it (and in the UK they already have two magazines – possibly 3 if DVD Files is still running, and at one point there was also Battles in Time, not to mention Torchwood Magazine which only ended because of a realignment of merchandising due to the Starz co-production – and the UK is even worse off than America but they seemed to do OK). My only concern is I don’t want “DWI” replacing “DWM”. I’d hate for the original to be replaced by this newcomer.
