‘My Sarah Jane’ tribute programme confirmed
The Doctor Who website has confirmed that the BBC will be airing a 15-minute programme dedicated to Elisabeth Sladen on Saturday.
The ‘My Sarah Jane: A Tribute to Elisabeth Sladen’ special will pay tribute to one of the Doctor’s most popular and loved companions of all time, and of course the lasting legacy of the actress who portrayed her. Elisabeth passed away yesterday, aged 63, after a battle with cancer. She will be forever remembered by fans both young and old.
‘My Sarah Jane: A Tribute to Elisabeth Sladen’ will air on Saturday at 6:45pm on the CBBC Channel – straight after The Impossible Astronaut on BBC One.
Elisabeth Sladen created one of Doctor Who’s best loved and most enduring characters, Sarah Jane Smith. For over 35 years she brought the compassionate journalist to life, creating a figure that was adored by audiences of all ages – truly a heroine whose appeal had no boundaries.
This 15 minute programme is both a tribute and a celebration of Elisabeth Sladen. It brings together stories from friends and colleagues and draws on a rich archive of material to remind us of Sarah Jane’s journey, from companion to the Third Doctor to the central character in CBBC’s award-winning The Sarah Jane Adventures.
A dedication to her will also be shown at the start of The Impossible Astronaut.
Well done, BBC. And thank you so much. Though I suspect I’ll have to see it on YouTube.
Isn’t it going to clash with confidential?
@Rose Weasley
Confidential starts at 7, straight afterwards.
Glad to see this is happening, but it’s sad that Nicholas will probably only get a small tribute at the end of The Impossible Astronaut.
Great that the BBC are paying tribute.
The past 24 hours of online dedications, messages and tributes have been really moving and are testament to how cherished Elisabeth was and how iconic Sarah Jane was.
I’m sure these will be feelings that will never fade.
@TE
Or not at all. No one has mentioned that there will be any dedication for Nicholas Courtney. And placing one after a cliffhanger ending makes no sense.
It should have been on BBC1.
@Alex
Happened at the end of The Waters of Mars for Barry Letts, if I remember correctly – and that had a cliffhanger ending of sorts.
This is what Elizabeth would want, she deserves a tribute
I’m glad they’re having a tribute.
Maybe they are already planning to have a small tribute for Nicholas Courtney as he died a few months ago. I think the emphasis is being placed in Lis Sladen because her death was such a SHOCK. Virtually no one outside her family knew she was ill and this tribute will also give some closure to children who watch SJA and Doctor Who.
RIP Lis and Nicholas
She de3serves it.
I’ve read a few places that episodes of the new season of SJA were filmed before Liz Sladen passed away. Here’s hoping they will eventually be shown.
news was1st thing I saw when log on 2 fb last night, 15 min. is not nearly long enough & a tag @ the start or end is not good enough 4 either her or N.C.
@GallifreyanLightning I agree.
@TE
Oh thanks. She definitely deserves it.
@Brian J. Hatcher
The three stories of Series Five that were filmed (1, 2 and 6) are rumoured to be shown this Autumn, but with everything that’s happened…
‘My Sarah Jane: A Tribute to Elisabeth Sladen’ was great.
Hard not to shed a tear.
