Crew discuss mid-series split, second half of series
io9 have released interviews with Doctor Who producers Beth Willis, Piers Wenger and Marcus Wilson, in which they discuss the impact of transmitting Series 6 as two series.
“We’re able to tell different stories,” Beth explains. “When you finish watching Episode 7 and you have to wait a few months for Episode 8, you’re left on tenterhooks, which was always our aim coming into this series.” Piers adds: “It does give us the chance to make the audience feel like Doctor Who is with them all year, there’s much less of a gap now.”
He continues: “That’s all driven by Steven’s desire for a big midseason cliffhanger, to bring the story to the climax that we’d normally get at the end of the series, then to be able to twist the series, to deliver another six episodes, to give you what the real meat of the series is about. You’re getting two big reveals for the price of one.”
Mark finishes: “Episode eight, which previously would have been a normal episode in the run, is in effect a season opener. So we’re back with a bang in the autumn, and building to Episode 13. Because it’s a short run of 6 episodes in the second part of the series, we have a single episode finale this year instead of a two-part finale.” Is it the autumn yet!?
Grrr…. I wish it was autumn! I hate waiting to see what happens! I am sure it is gonna be fantastic! I can’t wait!
I never thought I’d say this but can we skip the summer and go strate to this Fall.
Oh well, at least Torchwood will be starting soon.
i caqnt wait for the autumn to come to see the end of the series not too sure about the 1 eipisode finale instead of 2
Hmmm, I smell an orchestrated move to get Nu Who back to its rightful Autumn schedule. I can just see Moffat digging his heels in and saying no to splitting the season next year (even though it was his idea) or to not having the show beginning in September or October. Still, it makes sense to have Who on when the evenings are drawing in and the children are back to school. It was always a magical time for me as a child. It should be that way again.
