Hold on… don’t I know you?
Doctor Who fans up and down the land rejoiced last night (we personally screamed for hours and played Because We Want To at the highest volume possible!) when Billie Piper was spotted on set filming scenes for David Tennant’s last episodes!
The actress was pictured filming in South London as Rose Tyler, with Camille Coduri, who plays her mother, Jackie. They were shooting scenes at the location used for their council estate, the Powell Estate, in Series 1 and 2.
David Tennant was also spotted on set, and while crew members asked fans who were lucky enough to watch the filming first hand to refrain from taking pictures and posting what they saw online, we’ve managed to put together a short description of what we think was going on. Highlight below to reveal, but please be aware that it contains HUGE spoilers for the Tenth Doctor’s regeneration story…
- Based on what has been posted online, we can safely assume that the scenes being shot with Billie aren’t set in the present day, and dialogue that was heard suggests that it’s instead set in 2005 (January 1st 2005, perhaps?) - before Rose had even met the Doctor
- One of the scenes filmed featured the Doctor and Rose, and saw the Doctor ‘clutching onto the wall in apparant distress’ (has his regeneration started?), and Rose walking over and asking ‘You alright, mate?’, which just about confirms that in this particular scene, Rose has no idea who the man is!
Whatever’s going on, it’s certainly all very exciting, and it’s clear that Russell is pulling out all the stops to make both his and David’s last episode the biggest and most intriguing to date…
As always, feel free to share your own theories and ideas about Rose’s scenes below, but stay away if you don’t want to be spoiled! You have been warned!
…Is it December yet?
I was so excited to find out Rose is coming back!
I had sort of hoped it would be a Rose who knew The Doctor, so we could see a bit of her life with Ten.5 but this seems awesome too!
It is confusing because if she had met Ten before, surely she would have recognised him when he regenerated from Nine to Ten?
Damn Russell T Davies! He is too good!
Is it december yet?
I found this on a livejournal blog (gowdie)
Apparently, Billie was seen filming with David and Camille. The scene is a near bumping into each other kind of deal. With dialogue approximating:
Rose: You alright, mate?
Doctor: What year is it?
Rose: 2005.
Doctor: You know what? I bet you’re going to have a really great year.
Not happy. I wanted 10.5 closure…
Well it makes sense that seeing as Rose is happy on Pete’s World with 10.5, that the Doctor, if he wanted to see her, would have to travel back in time.
Looks like he’s on his way out and he knows it, so he’s visiting all his friends…
Maybe that explains why he met Jack at the Shadow Proclaimation instead of with Torchwood.
Just to clarify, before anyone says this scene takes place towards the end, the clapperboard for the story says this is Scene 7, 148 scenes before the scene with Verity Newman.
Also explains why he chose to meet Alonso there as well.
Oh brilliant. Do we get a montage of companions? Is this RTD saying “Look what I’ve done!”? Ugh. I hope the writing is downright amazing, because right now I’m not much of a happy bunny. Rose’s journey has ended. Let’s not muck it up.
@TSG
Absolutely, spot on!
WOW! maybe he travels to his companions pasts? So Donna won’t burn … Rose won’t go into an epileptic fit … and Martha won’t die of shock …
hmmmmmmmmmm
@JW
No. He travels to modern-day Chiswick to meet Wilf, where he also ends up meeting Donna and Sylvia again. Martha’s cameo is probably set in the present too, but Freema has probably filmed it indoors or will film it before production officially ends (the only person who has left Doctor Who now is David Tennant). Jack and Alonso’s cameo is set in the present or future, and Rose’s cameo is set in the past.
Is Martha actually in this? Her status in the finale has not been declared…?
Staff
SPOILER WARNING:
According to some ‘insiders’ around the web, Freema’s actually filmed all of her scenes for the finale inside a studio, hence why she hasn’t been spotted on location. But, as always, we’ll just have to wait and see. Adds to the excitement of it all though, really.
@admin
Yep, that’s the word on the block. Which would make sense because that was the situation for 4.12 and 4.13, excluding the Nuremberg and the Park scenes.
Martha coming back wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, though, would it? She’s still on Earth (this one), has no fear of dying if she meets the Doctor, and has his phone number. Hardly a reason to keep her secret. I realise that they’re not giving press statements willy-nilly, saying “oh yeah, Freema’s back again” but still. You’d expect someone to have leaked it by now.
@TSG
They’re not really keeping her secret: they’re just using sets again (presumably the same set from TSS/TPS or TSE).
Martha aka freema!
Will not be in Doctor who, Torchwood or sarah jane!
This due to the fact she rejected the part in torchwood children of earth! (MARTHA IS ON HER HUNNYMOON!) and went to word for ITV as many will know if you know russel and his work he doesnt to like ITV due to Tv programme issues! As such freema choosing to work for ITV and not the BBC resulted in her Not being in any more DW/TW/SJA
This is a trusted sourse of info!
So do we think the sences with rose cold be a flash back of memory of the doctor in a regen!
I think the Doctor goes back to visit Rose in 2005 where he first met her to say goodbye because possibly he won’t ever see her again.. well, not as the 10th Doctor, and he won’t recognise her.
Another theory of mine is that The Master wipes the Doctor completely out of his companions lives so that they don’t remember him at all.
