The Eleventh Doctor’s costume unveiled!

July 20th, 2009

It’s been a very long time coming, but here’s the first official picture of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan on set of Doctor Who, and in costume as their respected characters, the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond!

Six months after his casting in the series was announced, 26-year-old Smith can been seen in all his Time Lord glory wearing a tweed suit, with a brown bow tie – a look that’s reminiscent of an Oxford professor. He’s also wearing dark shoes and trousers. Meanwhile, Karen can be seen in quite a laid back and contemporary look for her portrayal of the Doctor’s new companion. You can see the intriguing location shot below:

Sorry, but this is our new timelord? That reallly does not look good on him and for his character, why can he not wear the blue design he wore on his first promo shots? Really un-impressed.
Also, that brown suit is making mw feel rather slightly sick. 0 /10.

He looks like he’s stepped out of Einstein and Eddington, that docu-drama DT did a while back! Initially, I’m not all that keen, but I bet he’ll carry it off brilliantly.

As for Amy Pond… I really don’t like her surname. But I’m sure they can put in a few good jokes about that and we’ll end up pitying the character rather than the writers.

The new suit on Matt looks bloody awful i would be red faced having to wear that and get people to take me seriously what a fashion disaster and for Amy she looks like any girl on planet earth normal :-)

They look brilliant! The Doctor’s costume produces that feeling of a smart, well-dressed, young man which would come in handy with any period episodes rather than Tennant’s casual suit (which was, admittedly, brilliant). Although, I’m not very keen on her character’s name, I can’t wait to see Karen in action!

that suit is horrendous! he looks like a cartoon character, which is never a good thing in a live action series. Im hoping matt will grow on me as a performer so il forget the suit but it just looks daft.

Oh and can I just say, the companions name…amy POND???? What are they thinking.

I think steven has made a bad desision about the suit. It is like he has tried to make matt’s doctor look like davids doctor but something gone wrong

We all seem to be in agreement about the suit, but what about Amy’s costume? I like it, she’s a bit more eccentric with what she’s wearing than the previous companions, and she’s wearing Converses! If that’s not a nod to David’s Doctor, then I don’t know what is.

Karren seems to dress like she isn’t from the 21st centuary. I think the first episode might come from the 60’s

When i first saw the costume this morning i was shocked and saddened… but throughout the day, the more ive seen it (in some MAJOR spoiler photo’s), it has grown on me… still not fantastic tho.

    The new/old TARDIS intrigues me a lot…

As for Amy’s costume… well, who said the episode being filmed was the first?

Matt, Karen and AK all have fantastic costumes for the promotional photos/Episode One.

TE, it’s hardly promotional? It looks more like a sly photo being taken!

Is that the new exterior? I thought that was just for promo shots, it looks kind of…. well plastic!

The picture of the tardis is the one from the 60’s series which is strange

    @Steve’Lee
Not that photo that was taken (probably) by The Sun. I mean, the promotional photos for the series/Episode One (delete as applicable) the Production Team were taking of Matt, Karen and AK ;)

That’s what an average old man wears to a dinner party.

I’m really annoyed because we weren’t feeling all this negativity with David Tennant, lets hope all this bickering stops when hopefully Matt Smith will be a fantastic Doctor. But I do not like that outfit at all.
