The Eleventh Doctor and Amy speak: Matt and Karen talk to DWM!
There’s a brand new interview with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, in which they talk about what fans can expect from the Time Lord’s latest incarnation and his new companion, Amy, in Series 5.
“My character will be less tolerant than a lot of those who have gone before him,” Smith revealed. ”And Amy’s got real fire in her belly.”
He continued: ”But there’s also great affection and love there, and we’re developing that all the time.”
“[The first time I met Matt] I was actually quite intimidated, because, you know, he’s Doctor Who,” Gillan added. “It was all very scary. But he was very friendly, and made me feel at ease.”
You can read their full interview in Doctor Who Magazine #417 - out now priced £4.99!
“Less tolerant”. Hm. I can’t decide whether I like that or not. And what will it do to that most wonderful genre: fanfiction? It’ll be brilliant, no matter his character. I trust the Moff.
Gah! He’s ‘The Doctor’, Karen, not “Doctor Who”!
(Sorry, I had to)
Anyway it’ll be interesting to see what a less tolerant Doctor is like. I assume he means less forgiving of “bad” aliens rather than less tolerant of aliens altogether. We don’t want a racist (species-ist?) Doctor
@Ez
I still can’t get my head around that: “Cakti.” “That’s racist!” RTD, you do send us mad sometimes ;D
I am so not loving all this business about the chemistry between Amy and Doctor and how red hot it is, come on? seriously? I had really hoped to be done with that entirely by now, can’t we have more than just ONE companion who isn’t in love with the Doctor, I mean even Jack had a thing for him
@ merry
We have had a companion who wasnt in love with the doctor…her name was donna!
@ Pirko indeed hence the more than just one preface, lol
Random fact: When RTD first came up with the s4 companion, who was originally going to be Penny Carter, he said (quote from The Writer’s Tale): “Under al this is my need to write The Doctor In Love again… Penny is walking into the Doctor’s life at just the right time… The first time that the Doctor sees Penny, it should be like – wham! Both hearts.”
Thank goodness Catherine Tate came back, eh?
Just as long as “less tolerant” doesn’t equate to post regenerative strangling and general Colin Baker-esque irritability.
Aw, come on, guys – quit complaining about the series before it’s even been aired. Even if the Doc and Amy do have a thing between them is that so wrong? They’re both absolutely scrummy… Don’t tell me you wouldn’t.
Yep, it would. One of the best Doctor’s (Jon Pertwee) said,”there is no room in the TARDIS for hanky panky” RTD lowered the tone with the whole Rose/Martha/Jack/Astrid things. Thankfully Donna had more sense. No way should any Doctor and his companion have a ‘thing’ between them. Isn’t that why Torchwood was invented!
