Steven Moffat talks Rivers, Angels and reunions!
DigitalSpy have today released the second part of their exclusive chat with Steven Moffat!
One of the highlights of the interview is his discussion of the return of the Weeping Angels. He promises that we’ll see an ever darker side to the statues in the new series!
“The last time we saw them they were hiding on Earth, they were scavangers,” he revealed. ”So this time we see them in their more deadly form!”
He goes on to admit that he’d never say never to writing a multi-Doctor story, but only if the time was right and the story did it justice.
“I’m not against it,” he said. ”I think doing Time Crash – which was 8 minutes of Peter and David – was about right, but if you’ve got a really good story that motors on the fact that this man is experiencing the same adventure at several different points of his life, then that would be worth doing. But you can’t just do a special or an episode as a reunion party. With a really good story, then yes.”
Finally, regarding River Song’s comeback, the showrunner explained: ”The way River Song came about was that I needed the Doctor in an ancient library, and I needed a team of archeologists to walk in and immediately trust him. There are some things that the psychic paper just wouldn’t cover, so I thought, what if one of the archeologists knows him but he doesn’t know her? The whole story just unfolds without you particularly trying.”
He teased: ”Now we’re bringing her back, and you’ll find out who she is. You might be very, very wrong in your presumptions.”
The new series of Doctor Who begins Saturday 3rd April on BBC One and BBC HD!
We might be very, very wrong? But which we? The we who swear she must be his wife? The we who think she could have come from Gallifrey but isn’t a Time Lord? The we who hate her and therefore think she must be conning him in some way?
Can’t wait to see what the weeping angels are like!
