It has been confirmed that Matt Smith will be taking on the role of the protagonist in a new BBC Two drama called Christopher And His Kind.

The Eleventh Doctor actor will be portraying a young Christopher Isherwood in a 90 minute film which will follow the celebrated author as he leaves his mother to move to Berlin in the 1930s. It’s thought that he’ll be filming it over the coming months before returning to Cardiff to begin production on the sixth series of Doctor Who in July.

Lindsay Duncan, who appeared as Adelaide Brooke in last year’s special, The Waters of Mars, has been cast in the role of Isherwood’s mother in the drama, which is written by Kevin Elyot and directed by Geoffrey Sax. Smith and Duncan have previously appeared together on stage in That Face. As always, we’ll keep you updated!
