Official site remembers William Hartnell
The official Doctor Who website has today posted an article looking back over the life and times of William Hartnell, who died on this day in 1975, aged 67.
The actor became the face of the Doctor’s very first incarnation in 1963, but, after appearing in 29 stories/134 episodes, he was forced to step down from the role in 1966 due to poor health. Just over four decades later, his legacy in the Doctor Who universe lives on, and his episodes are still being enjoyed by fans new and old!
Below you can take a trip through time and relive the First Doctor’s regeneration from The Tenth Planet…
I never really thought about this before. If William Hartnell hadn’t been so absolutely excellent in the role, a WHOLE lot of people – 10 lead actors, thousands of other actors, directors, producers, writers, behind-the-scenes artists, etc., etc., etc., would have had much different careers. And I would have another TV show as my most favorite TV show ever! THANK YOU, WILLIAM HARTNELL!
