It has been confirmed that Series 4 of The Sarah Jane Adventures will feature appearances from both the Doctor and another of his former companions!

In an exciting story penned by creator and ex-Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies, the team will join forces with Jo Grant, played by Katy Manning, who originally accompanied the Third Doctor through time and space back in the 1970s. Sarah Jane will also be reunited with the Doctor, but what will she make of his latest incarnation?

“Playing Jo Grant again is something I never really considered,” Manning said. ”I was gobsmacked when they told me and I’m over the moon. What an incredible little treat.”

Meanwhile, leading lady Elisabeth Sladen commented: “It’s a fantastic script and I can’t wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us. I’ve known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her. I last met her in LA but this time we will be in Cardiff. LA was good but Cardiff is better.”

According to Nikki Wilson, the two-part adventure will see the gang journeying inside a secret base hidden beneath Mount Snowdon, where they’ll encounter brand-new vulture aliens called the Shansheeth, voiced by actor David Bradley, who plays Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movie series. The executive producer added: “We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing Sarah Jane and the gang to both the Eleventh Doctor and Jo Grant, and to have a script penned by Russell T Davies is the icing on the cake!”

It will mark the Doctor’s second appearance in the CBBC spin off, following David Tennant’s stint in Series 3’s The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, and will also be the first time Russell T Davies will have written for the new Doctor!

    I think it will be great! I did think it was quite soon to have the 11th Doctor in sja, maybe S5 of the show, but I’m not complaining!!!

    @Admin, I keep sending you news too late, lol……you beat me to it, but oh well.

    I’m not sure I think it’s TOO soon, but I do think it is unusually quick. It took the 10th Doctor more than series to be in the SJA, but at the same time, he did meet Sarah Jane a number of times in “School Reunion”, “Journey’s End” and the “End Of Time Part II”.

    I suppose it all depends on perspective. I do think it’s quite quick, but at the same time, by the time Season 4 of the SJA comes out, Matt will have been the Doctor for quite a while. Also, it’ll be interesting to see what both Sarah Jane and Jo Grant make of the 11th Doctor and how they’ll interact.

    I think newer fans of Doctor Who (including myself) will have to research who Jo Grant was, but basically, it seems she was a companion of the Third Doctor and also worked for UNIT.

    Well this explains why RTD, though Moffat didn’t seem to know the reason himself, asked to see some of the scripts for the current series.

    @TWWL
    RTD said in The Writer’s Tale: The Final Chapter that they were sending him Moffat’s Series Five scripts, but he didn’t know why, presuming it was just because he was showing them the Specials.

    On the topic of this: while it may seem a bit too soon, it would be relevant, especially if the RTD story is Story Three, after it happens and he leaves the Gang in Story Two of Series Four (wow, I actually resisted posting those spoilers…).

    Also, when are they going to announce which Series Five stories they’ll be filming this year, after Series Four is finished?

    Oh, I know that, but it was in a Moffat interview where Moff said RTD had recently requested to see some more scripts and he wasn’t sure why.

    Katy looks exactly the same (almost)! I don’t normally watch SJA but I probably will for this episode.

    Shansheeth; that’s a mouth-full, isn’t it? :P Still I can’t wait!

    You know I hate you for posting half spoilers like that. Not really, obviously, it just makes me want to know what you’re talking about!! Now I’m going to have to go and find out – though I think I’ve read it somewhere, I’m not quite sure…

    @TSG
    I totally would post it, but there may be a few people who don’t and don’t want to know who I’m talking about it. But, I’ve narrowed it down to two people meaning it’s either Luke or Clyde…

    Come on! What’s not to like? Jo Grant off the UK TV sceens since 1973 in cahoots with Sarah Jane AND the 11th Doctor (plus Russell’s sublime scripting) the perfect segue to series 5 – any Who fan worth their salt should be glued to their screen!!
