Rate & Discuss: Cold Blood
It’s the most important day in the history of Earth: the dawn of a new age of harmony or the start of its final war. The Doctor must face his most difficult challenge yet, in a battle in which he cannot take sides, and on a day when nobody must die…
Now that we’re over the halfway mark of the series (already!?), things were inevitably going to take a turn for the worse, and in tonight’s episode, our heroes faced their darkest day yet, finding themselves at the forefront of an epic battle for Planet Earth…
In the conclusion to Chris Chibnall’s long-awaited Silurian two-parter, there was plenty of good old-fashioned drama, action and heartache (oh, so much heartache!) on the menu, as the human race faced the dawn of a new age of harmony, or the start of their final war. As if all of that wasn’t enough to discuss, we were also given more tantalizing teases as that pesky little crack returned, and there were yet more jaw-dropping twists and turns adding another bundle of cogs to the ever-growing finale wheel of speculation.

Bloomin’ ‘eck! It was only two weeks ago that he was killed for the first time!
I think you could label this episode a tragedy without exaggeration. Alaya, Rory, the peace talks.
But does anyone else get the feeling that the cracks might give us Rory back in the finale?
Weak and disappointing. Human “Hetro Reptilians!!” They were insulting to the Silurians! Unfortunately this season is getting worse. Although the city looked fantastic. The “Hetro Reptilians!!” (I refuse to call them Silurians!) were so under used. The story was slow and dragging. At least Rory got killed and is out of the program. He was so drippy! The shock ending was about the best bit! And as for the 1000 year return, it would never happen!
There was so much wrong with this story!!!
” And as for the 1000 year return, it would never happen!” Huh?
Much better second episode, I found the first part a touch dull, this second part had me gripped throughout, and that ending! Golly gosh!
@TWWL
Just realised I never actually said that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had my hands pressed to my mouth throughout the last twenty minutes because I was so enthralled.
@TSG
So did I. And I got the impression that it wasn’t truly the end of Rory as well.
I enjoyed this one, first part was good but a tad slow, but enjoyed this second one. Sorry if this spoils the finale but rory has been confirmed to appear in the finale.
@Ash
Yeah
That was a great two parter in my opinion. Really impressed with this series. There have been some low points but even they have been some what enjoyable. The highs however definately elevate this series as one of the best yet. I am excited about next week.
@ steve
I agree with u! this series is getting worse. There has not been one episode yet that has really gripped me. The Silurians were wasted and it just felt more like “oh heres some classic monsters returning, just like the last era” except the classic monsters in RTD’s era had a purpose, had exciting storylines (maybe apart from the sontarans). I didnt know anything about silurians before this episode and know nothing further now.
@ Ash
I really hope rory doesnt come back…again!…in the finale. Hes already died twice (and his death tonight) looked awkward and rushed. If he comes back, no one will care if he dies a third time
I didn’t really get the Rory disappearing part. But this ep was good
I think it’s getting more difficult for me to express my opinion, because it’s falling into line with the people that like this season, when I initially didn’t, lol
I know certain people hate Rory, I can sort of understand that, but at the same time, I have to admit to kind of liking the bloke. I think it’s because although he is a bit of a loser, you know he’s a good bloke and Ash, maybe you did reveal a bit of information I hadn’t known before but I’m glad you did because that just being the end of him would have been bad story telling in my opinion, you know, the kind of “oh, he’s dead and Amy’s just forgotten him, moving on”, but now there’s more to it.
The 11th Doctor’s growing on me as his personality develops through the episodes, and despite the 10th Doctor being “my Doctor” as people say, I now completely accept Matt Smith as the Doctor, doesn’t cross my mind other people have played that character while watching.
This two parter has been good, but I’d like to have seen the Silurians more too.
Amy’s still growing on me too. Despite me very much disagreeing with parts of her character, I like to see the more vunerable sides of her and I think Karen portrays that in a way that allows me to empathise.
I’m glad that conversing with people on here helped me get over the pre-concieved negativity I had about this series, because it really isn’t that bad so far.
I do think the episodes of this series haven’t had the gravity for me that I experienced with Doctor Who previously, but they’re decent enough stories and ending tonight’s episode with the Doctor retrieving a smashed piece of the Tardis from the crack was intriquing and I think it was a good decision to remove the obvious crack from a couple of episodes, before bringing it back into the loop.
I’m willing to go with the flow now, so I’m interested to see where they’re going with this line of story.
WOW, WOW, WOW! The was a FANTASTIC episode. Best of the Series so far, this series has to be the best Series ever. I now Bow down to you Steven Moffat.
The End was like “WOAH”! Rory’s death was sad. A lot of people dont seem to like him, but I do, and I dont care what anyone else says! The Doctor pulling the piece of the Tardis out of the crack literally made my jaw drop. I cannot wait for the Finale. Steven Moffat…you are a GENIUS!
I can’t believe they killed Rory. And if that wasn’t cruel enough, he was wiped from existence. Have to say that Karen did such a great job in that scene.
And the end with the tardis piece? OMG…
I think we all have to realise that this is a different era now. It may not be as impressive, but it really does feel like Classic Doctor Who with the modern twist.
Great episode. Great series. I’m finding it hard to find faults.
i have a tad more info on rory and the finale but wont say anything unless people want me too. but if people already know then i wont have to worry.
@TWWL The Doctor keeps saying certain points in time are fixed. The Daleks Invasion Of Earth in 21st Century is one of those fixed points!!!
I just hope the 7pm slot and the drizzly weather means that the episode got higher ratings than the paltry – and worryingly low – 4 million last week.
@Ash – please tell us!
@Ash
Please do tell! I love spoilers, strange creature that I am.
