Warning! This article and its comments may contain spoilers...

Dessicated corpses, terror in the canal and a visit to the sinister House of Calvierri - the Doctor takes Amy and Rory for a romantic mini-break, as the TARDIS touches down once again. But Venice is not as it should be. The city has been sealed to protect it from the Plague, although Rosanna Calvierri may have other plans…

Some people say that three’s a crowd, but you never have to worry about running out of space when the TARDIS is concerned (it is bigger on the inside, after all!). It’s just as well really, as tonight Rory became a bonafide member of Team Time & Space!

After Amy’s proposition at the end of Flesh and Stone last week, the Doctor set out to rekindle the relationship between her and her bumbling fiancé, and where better to relight their fire than in one of the most romantic hot spots known to man? Venice!

But, unfortunately, the course of true love never did run smooth, and, naturally, their getaway was somewhat intruded by a creepy clan of bloodsucking vampires, who were just one bite away from world domination. They made for a great mystery for the trio to get their teeth into though, and there was definitely something fishy going on…

I think it was fang-tastic indeed! A really great romp, with some brilliant moments! Really, really loved it. The CGI, for me, showed a really significant improvement – very impressive! I also found the story arc references very intriguing. The plot was great, and the acting superb. What more can I say? Venizia!

    4.5/5 :D

And Admin, the story was called ‘The Vampire of Venice’, not Vampires of Venice’!

After the arguement that ensued last week, this episode was actually pretty good. I could appreciate the story and how they weren’t merely alien vampires, and I liked how the vampires used technology similar to the shimmer that the Vinvocci used.

I did like the CGI, despite it being quite clear it was CGI at one point, but it was effectively used. I liked how the relationship between Rory and Amy was better emphasised after last week and I hope we continue to explore that, and it was good to see, or rather hear, the first instance of complete silence, as well as what seemed to be the traditional crack but this time tiny inside the lock of the Tardis.

Overall, a decent episode, which has restored my faith a little. I don’t have much more comment I can make, we’ll see what the coming weeks bring…

So did the BBC add the “The”, or ’twas it Moffat? Hmm…

Anyway, a fantastic episode, definitely. It was a fantastic turn of events that Rosanna was evil for a purpose (to save her species), and not a permanent villain.

The CGI was alright, but not as good as that of the previous two-parter. And the CGI in the coda was not at all believable due to the awful camera angles.

However, the script and performances of Matt, Karen, Arthur and co made it an enjoyable episode, so… 4/5.

    Um, *takes deep breath* myleastfavouriteoftheseriessofar.

Sorry, it just… the ending felt rushed, diverting to the second generator didn’t seem to have much purpose besides getting the Doctor to climb that tower and I thought Rosanna could have gone a little further to save her children. And why did only the boys survive the trip?

But the relationship between Rory, Amy and the Doctor was brilliant. Particularly because there were a couple of moments where Rory was entirely left out, but then also a couple of moments where Amy remained oblivious, and one or two where the Doctor was noticeably left out. A well-balanced threesome.

And let’s make it perfectly clear: it may have been my least favourite so far, but I’ve loved all of them. In no way am I saying that this was a bad episode, just that of the six so far, it had the most things I would have liked tweaked slightly.

    @TSG
Very fair opinion, I thought it was a bit weird that the second generator could be defeated by flicking a switch

Mm, my sister went “That’s it?” I thought it would have been brilliant if the Doctor had said that.

The flicking the switch ending; anyone else think there may have been something else planned at one stage that had to be changed for money or time reasons? You can’t believe anyone would have read that without asking for a better resolution.

Anyway, all in all, a decent episode. Lots of funny moments, Rory a nice addition, a solid adventure.

That was just simply absolute fun! Don’t understand why the sonfish exploded from one quick flash of sunlight from Amy’s mirror though. Nor as to where that sunlight came from as the storm was coming in at that point. Besides that though, a really terrific episode with lots of great moments. I loved the “flick of the switch” end to the plan. Much better than clipping wires as a clock counts down, or talking the device into turning itself off (as in “Victory of the Dandy Daleks” and the android.) A simple flick of the switch simply wasn’t expected and therefore (I thought) brilliant! The girls suddenly there in the dungeon behind the Doctor was quite frightening, and rather enticing! (The one blond in that scene was drop-dead gorgeous. Too bad the Doctor didn’t invite her on some adventures in the TARDIS! Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink. Er… sorry.)

The season’s upward trend definitely continued with this episode. Great dynamic between the Doctor, Amy and Rory. The stage party scene was hilarious, some wonderful little moments of dialogue throughout. Overall this was an entertaining and exciting story.

The ‘flick the switch’ resolution might have been simple, but don’t forget we’ve had had stories with simple solutions in the past: smashing two vases in The Satan Pit, switching off the dampening field in Planet of the Ood, just to name a few.

Overall the story was great. Although I would tend to agree that moving the cast overseas to film is a waste of money, nothing in the episode could not have been found in Britain or CGI’d. Rory was a complete drip, I really wanted to smack him one, At least it made Amy bit more interesting, she still is coming over as a little to wooden. There were some amazing nods, like the photo of the original Doctor, WIlliam Hartnell. The Fish/Vampire story needed a little more about the “Vampire” part. The only thing I would say is…….sort the bl**dy theme out. Murray Gold should be ashamed! It is the worst version EVER. Worst then Trail of a Timelord!

Pretty average, not bad, not brilliant, but I’d say it was more on the good side than it was on the bad side. It was definately great fun to watch, which is always important in Doctor Who. My main problem was the way the two generators were sort of shoved into the story just when they were needed. There should have been more clues and build up to them. But it was by no means a bad episode and was a break from the extremely tense Weeping Angels from last week. I’d say… 8 out of 10!

I thought it looked like a remake off Turn Left really. Still, will judge on the episode.

I can’t feel anything but “meh” over this episode. The villains were good an the plot was very clever, all the way up until the ending. There were some excellent funny moments and the script in general was spot on.

However, the ending sucked something awful. It felt soooo rushed. It was like they had written 40 minutes of episode and then gone “damn, we need an ending”, hence the terrible quick fix solution we got in the end. Also, the green screen on the bit where the Doctor climbed the tower was absolutely awful.

Disappointing end to what was shaping up to be a reasonable episode, although it was always going to seem a bit of a come down after the amazing episode last week.
