The shortlist for the TV Choice Awards 2010 has been revealed, with Doctor Who facing competition from Merlin, Wild at Heart and Waterloo Road for the Best Family Drama gong.

In addition, Karen Gillan’s portrayal of companion Amy Pond in the latest series has secured her a place in the Best Actress category, alongside Waterloo Road’s Denise Welch, Keeley Hawes from Ashes to Ashes, and Kaya Scodelario for her role in Skins.

Matt Smith is up against Jack O’Connell from Skins, Philip Glenister from Ashes to Ashes and John Barrowman (we don’t need to tell you who he is…) for Best Actor, while last year’s mini-series of Torchwood, Children Earth, goes head to head with Shameless, Ashes to Ashes and Skins for the Best Drama Series prize.

Voting is open until July 9th, and the winners will be announced at the ceremony on September 6th, which will be hosted by Alexander ‘Mr Smith’ Armstrong.

We’d just like to wish Doctor Who, Torchwood and all its cast and crew the best of luck!

I read somewhere it was decided that the “12 rule” doesn’t apply anymore because the Time Lords are gone and they were the ones who enforced it. It’s like what #10 said at the end of Waters of Mars: the Doctor can make his own rules because there’s no one else.

On the other hand, the Doctor loves going on about how old he is, and it’s doubtful he’d want to live indefinitely.

These are only theories, of course

@e.p There are some other interesting points to remember as well. What if this Doctor isn’t the original Doctor but some kind of construct that carries all the Doctor’s memories? The Master, as played by Jon Simms, was never the real Master.
Also, how old is the Doctor anyway. In Time and the Rani, The Doctor states that he and the Rani are 953. The first Doctor was either 650 or 750 years old, while the second Doctor said he was only 450 (Tomb of the Cybermen). 2 regenerations later, he was 750, a mid life crisis. (Pyramids Of Mars) The 5th Doctor was the last full reign on screen Doctor before the 10th Doctor. In all honest, has the Doctor only aged 150 years between the 4th and 9th Doctor or is the Doctor shy about his real age. In Aliens of London, the Doctor first says “900 years of time and space” and then appears to change his mind and when suggested by Rose he is 900 years old, agrees. The first suggestion would put him at either 1550 or 1650 years old.
