Silences, Rivers and Songs – Series 6 discussion
It was in The Eleventh Hour we were first told of the mysterious silence, but we’re still no closer to finding out what it is, or, more importantly, what’s behind it…
Steven Moffat has promised us that all of our questions will be answered in Series 6, and we’ve been left with plenty of clues to dissect until it hits our screens! What ominous figure could possibly blow up the TARDIS, and what could be their motives for doing it? We’ve also heard what’s seemingly their voice – does it sound at all familiar?
Could it have anything to do with River Song, who’s identity we’ll also discover next year? In The Big Bang she told the Doctor that everything will change when he finally learns who she is – not the most inviting of prophecies, and we’re sure you’ve all got your own weird and wonderful theories whizzing aimlessly through your Doctor Who obsessed minds. So, it’s about time we gave you somewhere to share them, isn’t it?
Feel free to speculate the remaining nights until Christmas away on this post, a link to which will be posted on the sidebar so you can check back to see what our other visitors make of this ever-growing series arc. People say silence is a virtue, but something tells us things will be far from virtuous for the Doctor when this particular one takes over…
@BadWolf
Amy at the end of ‘The Almost People’ says to the doctors ganger that he is twice the man she thought he was. could this therefore mean that river did kill the doctors ganger instead of the real one because the ganger version is twice the man of the original. Also the doctor says in response to his gangers line “Well my death arrives I suppose.” the real doctor says “but this one we’re not invited to” followed shortly after by “you’re molecular structure can survive this… it may not be the end.” Does this mean it is the fake doctor on the beach in episode 1 The Impossible Astronaut
POSSIBLE SPOILER
Also the symbol OMEGA (looks like headphones) with the roman numerals II inside it is on the shoulders of the clerics in the ‘Time of Angels’ and ‘Flesh and Stone’ and appears over the shoulder of the guy saying “on this day… In this place” in the trailer for ‘A Good Man Goes To War.’ So why is river working with them in season 5 and what do they have to do with the angels.
I also believe that the real amy is replaced with the ganger amy in the time between episode one and two as at the end of episode 1 amy tells the doctor she is pregnant but at the end of episode two amy saya she is wrong and isn’t pregnant because she isn’t as she is the ganger at that point.
@Bad Wolf
Also just a thought why was the doctor talking about cyber mats to the doctors ganger at the start of ‘The Almost People.’
He says…
Doctor: “Cybermats”
Ganger: “Do we have time for this”
doctor: “We make time. I’d like more proof that you’re me”
Can’t tell. (out of shot): “Cybermats. Created by the cybermen. They kill by feeding off brainwaves”
So my question is this. Why is the doctor and the doctors ganger talking to each other about what sounds like is inevitably the next episode
In the Impossible Astronaut,why would the Doctor in the diner find a straw and a milkshake more important than attending a mysterious invitation?
And could it have been the Vashta Narada inside the spacesuit, like in the Silence of the Library?
Just a list of some of (all ?) the mysteries which are still to be explained :
- Who is River Song for Amy, Rory and the Doctor ?
- Why did the Doctor tell River his real name (4-09) ?
- Why is the Silence so interested in Amy and her baby ?
- When did Amy get abducted ?
- Who killed the Doctor ?
- Why does the Silence need a space suit (6-02) ?
- What about the impossible 3rd floor in Amy’s house (5-01) ?
- What is “Demon’s Run” (6-07) ?
- When did the Silence appear for the 1st time ?
- Who or what caused the TARDIS’s explosion (5-12) ?
- Why did the TARDIS explode (5-12) ?
- Why did River still remember everything after the universe’s rebearth (5-13) ?
- Who is the little girl (6-01/6-02) ?
- How is the little girl related to Amy (6-02) ?
- How can the little girl be a time child (6-02) ?
- Why was she dying when we last saw her (6-02) ?
- How did she know she could regenerate (6-02) ?
- Are there other Gangers, apart from Amy’s one, wandering around ?
- Is Rory still an Auton ?
- What really happened after Amy shot the Astronaut (6-01/6-02) ?
- How did the fact that Amy told the (supposedly) real Doctor about his untimely death impact this crucial moment (6-06) ?
- Who was Dr. Renfrew really talking to behind that door, while Canton was in the room in the orphanage (6-02) ?
- Are River’s guards in the Maze of Death (the Omega sign) linked to all this (5-04/5-05) ?
- What about those strange marks in the grass at Amy’s house (5-12) ?
- Did the Doctor have a hidden reason to take Amy with him in the first place (5-01) ?

- Is there a link between Auton-Rory and Ganger-amy ?
- How did the creatures who invade Venice remember the Silence (5-06) ?
- Why did the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Autons, the Angels, Prisoner Zero and countless other beings know about the Silence and the TARDIS’s explosion and not the Doctor (5-12) ?
- Was there someone behind the shed, in the background, when the Astronaut killed the Doctor (6-01) ?
- What is the Silence’s master plan ?
- Did something we don’t know about happened to River and Rory in the underground tunnels (6-01) ?
- Why are Amy and River the only ones who felt ill after seeing a Silent (6-01) ?
- Why didn’t the Doctor gave a proper choice to the Silence and instead allowed River to slaughter them (6-02) ?
- Who did River kill (5-05) ?
- Why did River kill the best man she’s ever known (5-05) ?
- How many incarnations of the Doctor have River known in her life ?
- Why did River openly showed her feelings (shock) when she met Donna yet she doesn’t let slip the tiniest bit of emotion (so far – see the clip of her and Rory from next week’s event episode) when it comes to Amy’s destiny ?
- How does River know how to write in Old Gallifreyan (5-04) ?
- What about these hooded figures from next week’s episode (6-07) ?
- Are these hooded figures linked to the ones glimpsed in The End of Time and in The Beast Below (5-02) ?
- Who is the father (if there is one) of Amy’s baby ?
- What does “The only water in the forest is the river” mean (6-04) ?
- Could this sentence refer to the events that occurred among the tree borgs in the Byzantium (5-05) ?
- What was that mysterious voice who ominously announced that “Silence will fall !” in the TARDIS just before the explosion (5-12) ?
- Why did the Doctor tell Amy that she was an anomaly when her younger self vanished from existence yet she was still present (5-13) ?
It’s entirely possible that I imagined mysteries where there are none, and I could have possibly forgotten some of them.
OK Steven. It’s up to you now. Show us what you’re capable of !
Blimey ! I didn’t realise that my post was THAT long ! Sorry for inconvenience, blame it on Steven Moffat after all. Of course, the “Bad Wolf”, “Torchwood”, “Vote Saxon” and “Lost planets/Rose’s ghostly appearances” didn’t raise such an amount of questions in their times !
@Bad Wolf
It was river who told the doctor his name………
@Bad Wolf
also the hooded figures from this saturday’s episode appeared in the big bang in the museum just afte amy meets her younger self theres 3 of them
@Bad Wolf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbp_5anoAso&feature=youtu.be link here for the 3 hooded figures one right at the back, one near the front but quite hard to see but is visable and one that comes on screen then quickly off screen its a kind of blink and you’ll miss it………
