Silences, Rivers and Songs – Series 6 discussion
It was in The Eleventh Hour we were first told of the mysterious silence, but we’re still no closer to finding out what it is, or, more importantly, what’s behind it…
Steven Moffat has promised us that all of our questions will be answered in Series 6, and we’ve been left with plenty of clues to dissect until it hits our screens! What ominous figure could possibly blow up the TARDIS, and what could be their motives for doing it? We’ve also heard what’s seemingly their voice – does it sound at all familiar?
Could it have anything to do with River Song, who’s identity we’ll also discover next year? In The Big Bang she told the Doctor that everything will change when he finally learns who she is – not the most inviting of prophecies, and we’re sure you’ve all got your own weird and wonderful theories whizzing aimlessly through your Doctor Who obsessed minds. So, it’s about time we gave you somewhere to share them, isn’t it?
Feel free to speculate the remaining nights until Christmas away on this post, a link to which will be posted on the sidebar so you can check back to see what our other visitors make of this ever-growing series arc. People say silence is a virtue, but something tells us things will be far from virtuous for the Doctor when this particular one takes over…
@TSG
Yes he does remember because when Amy remembered the Doctor he mentioned that he was an Auton/Roman Soldier made of plastic.
@TE
*slaps forehead* Oh, yeah…
As for the Valeyard, I’ve never watched the episodes in which he appears, but for what it’s worth, I think he’s relatively unlikely to appear as a major baddie. The Master could come back because everyone knows of him – there were dozens of Master stories – but the Valeyard is far less well-known. And before anyone says anything about the Silurians, who only had a couple of stories in Classic Who, they were a mid-season baddie, not a main one.
Thoughts?
Course! Rory has had nearly 2000 years to develop! I doubt he remembers it all though, else he would have changed much more in terms of personality. Maybe Autons have short memories?
@TSG
Of course, I don’t know how many comments you’ve read here, or elsewhere for that matter, but there’s been some thought/theory/conjecture/silly scribblings (my own included) – that the Valeyard was reintroduced in “Amy’s Choice” as the Dream Lord. ACTUALLY – we would have to say that the Valeyard was in fact CREATED in “Amy’s Choice”, only later to appear (in his own timeline) in “Trial of a Time Lord”.
Again, it’s all just a bit of fun to ponder these possibilities. It would be fun though if the modern makers of the series were to acknowledge this major event (though not as well known, as you wrote) from the early years.
@Professor Zed
Ah, I missed the Valeyard/Dream Lord conjecture. I like that idea. Actually, I hope that does happen, so I. Can get up to speed on this important happening for the Doctor.

@Teamfez!
Have done! And recommended. Good plan!
I think the good man River kills is probably Rory – he is always getting killed and is a good man (e.g. waits 2000 years for Amy)
I’m just hoping River does not turn out to be Amy in the future as they are too different
@virtualtimetraveller
So that would put the murder and her subsequent imprisonment after the Pandorica, since she didn’t recognise Rory there apart from as the Centurion.
Theory:
Omega is behind the cracks and the Tardis explosion. He somehhow managed to pose as a god to the priesthood in the future (see the priest symbol, looks like that of omega). He convinced river song that he was a friend of the doctor, and she helped him build a new Tardis ( that seen in the Lodger) using this as a beacon, he destroyed the doctors tardis, assuming the doctor would be inside. However, the other enemies intervened, actually saving the docttor. The explossion caused the cracks n time, leading the doctor into a self fufilling paradox. But when imprisoned in the pandorica (and then escaping) he was able to prevent the explosion and save the universe.
OMEGA IS NOT THE SILENCE! The silence is another being, either a resident or prisoner in the antimatter universe. He wants to stop omega.
From what Mark Gattis and Moff have hinted , The Silence are actually a race, a race of terrifying terrible beings, my guess is the Slender man type thing from the trailer in the out of focus shot
@The Silence I LOVE YOU , youve obviously taken time to develope that theory , i particularily like the Explosion meant to kill the Doctor , but enemies intervened and saved him Cudos
