Pre-order A Christmas Carol on DVD/Blu-ray!
This year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, hasn’t even aired yet, but already you can pre-order the DVD and Blu-ray of it online!
Both formats are due to released on January 24th 2011, and, according to the BBC Shop listing, the special features on the DVD (RRP £12.99) will include the episode’s instalment of Confidential as well as Doctor Who at the Proms 2010. It will also include a digital copy of the episode which can be watched on PCs or mobile devices.
The Blu-ray, meanwhile, has an RRP of £15.99. Check out the temporary covers below!
Loving this bit of news, indeed! However, I’m not too pleased with the digital copy feature moving on to TV shows, especially Doctor Who so I’m hoping this is a vanilla-only feature and stays away from the Series Six boxset.
@TE
What’s wrong with getting a free digital copy?
@Sean
Some folks don’t like the idea of having to pay extra for another disc containing the copy. I’m not a fan either as I feel it’s a waste or resources since I have no interest in digital copies. I’d rather they be an option, rather than having to pay extra. But I don’t lose sleep over them.
@Alex
But the RRP is the same as all previous single vanilla DVDs, £12.99, so it isn’t extra.
@Sean, @TheSilence2011
It’s not really a matter of not wanting to pay extra, but it’s just a waste of space and the quality tends to not be as good. Also, as someone who would get the Blu-ray version (if I were buying the vanilla), I wouldn’t see the point as I don’t have a Blu-ray disc drive.
I think £15.99 sounds quite good for a dvd with that amount of special features as previous christmas specials (xmas specials 1-4) never had any special features on
@pirko
The Runaway Bride had the Confidential episode, Music and Monsters. Voyage of the Damned had its Confidential episode plus Time Crash, and The Next Doctor had its Confidential episode and the 2008 Proms. So…
How much is this in US dollars? and what is the shipping?
I think it is great that all the DVD/Blue-Ray discs have extras on them. There is such a wealth of information available now. And having a digital copy is fantastic. You only have to shop around to get great prices, making these more value. Take Amazon, the DVD is less than a tenner and the bluray is less than the dvd rrp. Stop complaining. We have already lost out on season 5, as it no longer has the coming soon bit at the end. Don’t make them think that they should get away with removing the extra’s as well! At the end of the day, if the extras are removed, the price will stay the same!
