Overnight ratings have revealed that A Christmas Carol was seen by an impressive 10.3million people last night!

With nearly 40% of the total TV audience, Doctor Who was the second most watched programme of the day, coming just behind the hour-long EastEnders, which had 11.4million (43.2%) watching. Meanwhile, 207,000 stayed with the Doctor to watch the Christmas Confidential on BBC Three afterwards, a 0.8% share. Official figures will be published by BARB shortly.

The episode’s debut was preceded by the traditional Doctor Who buzz, as an avalanche of reviews appeared online. According to The Telegraph, the episode “started nicely”, however they believe that Steven Moffat must’ve had his tongue “at least partly in cheek” as the ”overblown” plot developed. The Guardian have praised the “sumptuous triumph”, while SFX have rated the “sweet, tender” episode 4.5/5.

We’ve heard what they had to say, but what did YOU think of the seasonal special? Share your reviews with us and other visitors in our discussion for the episode!

A very strange special, not sure if I was blown away by the Shark Sleigh or the Star Trek lens flares. However it was very well acted & filmed. I would place it up there with “Runaway Bride” and “The Next Doctor.” I did wish Amy & Rory had a bit more screen time.

I thought it was okay but nowhere near as good as some of the other xmas specials! Glad Amy and Rory didnt get much screen time (which is probably why I thought the episode was ok) and glad to see a little preview of series six

Honestly, the rating systems is an absolute joke. It’s based on a minimal amount of people and what they watched. Overall, this was a spectacular Christmas Special which knocked spots of the drivel that was dished out by RTD. I would take the viewing figures with a pinch of salt and be grateful the BBC have not shot down Doctor Who in flames, it wouldn’t be the first time!

I loved it because it seemed so random and bonkers! Micheal Gambon was great in it.
