Fourth series of Torchwood renamed to Miracle Day
It has been confirmed that the forthcoming series of Torchwood has been renamed to Miracle Day.
Originally billed as The New World, the 10-part series begins filming in LA next week, and ahead of its production, its creator Russell T Davies has revealed a handful of new details at the TCA press tour, including an intriguing outline of its plot. “The premise is a miracle happens in the world,” he teased. “One day, on Earth, no one dies. The next day, no one dies. The day after that, no one dies.”
He added: “The people who are dying keep dying, but don’t actually die. The possibility of death ceases to exist. Which is great for some people. But it’s an instant population boom. The earth relies on people dying. What is society going to do now? Some of the answers are beautiful and brave. Some of the reactions are terrifying.”
Meanwhile, fans of PC Andy will be excited to hear that he’ll be back in the new series! Rhys Williams actor Kai Owen has tweeted: “Just had a lovely chat with Tom Price, he’s gonna be in Torchwood too!!!! Oh the joys.”

Torchwood: Miracle Day will air on BBC One (UK) and Starz (US) from July.
First thought: yay for PC Andy coming back! Second thought: damn you RTD, I was gonna write that! Well, ish. Now I’ll always have the TW plot in my mind. Third thought: good plot. Hence the reason I wanted to write it. No, seriously though, it’s very CoE, the massive worldwide dilemma. Which I like. Bring on Miracle Day!
For such a basic title, it sounds epic! Can’t wait for Miracle Day!
@TSG
I love PC Andy!!!!! Bring on 1st July, Miracle day!!!
Sounds really awesome!!!!!
Sounds like a great storyline! Shame we dont have Ianto and Tosh and everyone but cant wait to see what the new team are like!
Children of Earth got me into Torchwood and I then watched Season 1 and 2.
Am very much looking forward to this in July, especially with actors such as Bill Pullman signing on for it.
The plot sounds genius! I think its a basic idea that is pushed to absolute extremes, which RTD does so well. The title sounds rather relevant to be honest, it sums up the series perfectly. To be honest the title is works out the same as ‘Children of earth’- basic but a very creepy tone ahead. Cannot wait for this
oh and great piece of casting, bill pullman. He a tremendously underrated actor
*tsk* Who let Rose into the heart of the TARDIS again? Honestly, making everyone immortal…
Seriously though, this sounds like a really great plot. I’m sure it will raise some veery interesting questions about ethics and mortality and all that, just as CoE did. Can’t wait!
