Tom Baker and Steven Moffat pay tribute to Courtney
Tom Baker and Steven Moffat have paid tribute to Nicholas Courtney following his passing earlier this week.
The Fourth Doctor actor has updated his official website with a fitting dedication to his “wonderful companion”. “Of all the characters in Doctor Who there is no doubt that he was the most loved by the fans for his wonderful portrayal of the rather pompous Brigadier,” he explained. “Nick’s close friends simply adored him. There was a certain innocence in his personality that was utterly endearing…”
Meanwhile, the official BBC site has posted their own special tribute, for which showrunner Steven Moffat has written: “I only met Nicholas Courtney once and very briefly – but he was as kind and generous and funny as his reputation suggests. And on screen, his perfectly pitched performance as the Brigadier carved a very special place in the history of Doctor Who. Somewhere out there, the Doctor just got a little lonelier.”
It’s always a shame when someone dies. Nick Courtney’s contribution to Doctor Who is amazing. Having appeared with 6 out of the 7 original Doctors, in the so called “classic series”., it will be a shame that the Brig has not be appearing in the “new” series. It’s almost like the Daleks never coming back when the “new series” returned in 2005. I hope Steven Moffat has the gracefulness to recognize Nick Courtney’s contribution when the “new” series returns.
