SFX have shared an extract from their new interview with Neil Gaiman, in which he briefly talks about a familiar monster that’ll be making a reappearance in his forthcoming Series 6 episode, The Doctor’s Wife!
We won’t say what it is for risk of spoilers, but most of you will no doubt know from the trailers! He explains: “We got to take a Russell monster and bring it back. It’s a nice link between the Tennant era and the current era, and it was nice to bring it back and do something different with it.”
The TARDIS will also play a big part in the story, as the writer teases: “The joy of my episode is that you realise how much of what’s in the TARDIS is probably still in there!”
The full interview will be featured inside SFX Magazine #209, on sale from next week.

It has been revealed that the premiere of Series 6 in Canada was watched by 538,000 people!
The first episode, The Impossible Astronaut, aired on SPACE on Saturday, and the figure makes Doctor Who the channel’s most watched programme of the year so far. It’s also up 3% on the previous most-watched episode of the series. In the UK, the episode brought in an audience of 6.5million for BBC One, and it broke ratings records in the US with 1.3million tuning in on BBC America.
Included are the latest Day of the Moon images released earlier today, as well as two additional ones, one of which we’ve linked to here as it contains a potential spoiler. Plus, there’s also some great publicty shots of various characters posing in the desert (as you do!), which you can see below. Day of the Moon airs on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One and 9pm/8c on BBC America.
It’s considerably different to the UK’s next time preview, and features some new clips and dialogue from the episode, in which the Doctor is locked inside the perfect prison while Amy, Rory and River run for their lives across America. With the help of their new friend Canton, they’re reunited to share their memories, but the whole world is being occupied by a terrifying alien force. Who can be trusted?
It airs on Saturday on BBC One/BBC One HD at 6pm, and on BBC America at 9pm/8c.
The episode will air on BBC One/BBC One HD at the slightly later time of 6:15pm on Saturday 7th May. Written by Steve Thompson, it sees the TARDIS marooned onboard a 17th century pirate ship whose crew is being attacked by a mysterious and beautiful sea creature. Hugh Bonneville guest stars as the implacable Captain Avery.
BBC Worldwide has confirmed that Series 6’s opening episode, The Impossible Astronaut, was watched by an impressive audience of 1.3million, which is the channel’s highest rating to date. Eagle eyed fans who have seen BBC America’s latest Doctor Who Insider video will have spotted a glimpse of what looks like David Walliams in role as Gibbis!
Although it’s only brief, it serves as our first look at his character, who will appear in Episode 11 of the new series, The God Complex, by Toby Whithouse. As the star of Little Britain and Come Fly With Me, he’ll be used to wearing prosthetics, though compared to some of the amounts he’s had to wear in the past, this probably feels like nothing!
