I have to admit, I can’t remember a time during RTD’s run on Doctor Who that I ever felt angry or actually felt like I really disliked like something.
I agree it’s in the same vein as the show since it returned, but something tangible has changed and even I don’t know what it is. The feel of the show has changed for me, it doesn’t feel like Doctor Who used to feel in Season 1 to 4, which also means it isn’t that David Tennant aint there anymore because Chris Eccleston and David Tennant feel like the same Doctor Who with a different Doctor.
I notice things a lot more now than I did. I mean, for instance, the sexual inuendos/behaviour. I know RTD did it, but I only remember that when I think about it.
With Steven Moffat’s writing, he feels like he’s being deliberately provocative with his time as Head Writer. It really bothers me and is immediately noticable, perhaps because it’s much closer to home now with Amy being as…..what’s an appropriate word….feisty, perhaps, as she is. Moffat started by giving the Doctor a kissogram in Police/Nurse/Nun uniforms as a companion, I can’t watch the end of Flesh and Stone because of how strongly Amy came on to the Doctor and I wouldn’t want to watch the Comic Relief Specials again because the suggestion that Rory was looking up Amy’s skirt through the transparent floor, in the context of Doctor Who only, genuinely makes me uncomfortable. Moffat thinks what he’s writing is funny, a lot of fans seemingly back him up with me being wrong, which isn’t the first time.
His style of writing means I can’t enjoy Doctor Who at the moment. Every episode, I’m waiting for him to do something that’ll make me uncomfortable. Amy being a kissogram, Amy coming on to the Doctor quite strongly, Amy and Rory playing weird dress up games, Rory looking up Amy’s skirt.
And he does things like redesign the Daleks, which are now hideous, even if he does say he’s gonna bring back the old design when the new ones come back, there’s now doubt he meant the RTD Daleks and not ones from the 1960s/1970s.
I do know that Doctor Who is just a TV show and quite surprisingly, it’s not as important to me as it sounds, but I do watch Doctor Who to enjoy it and I admit, Steven Moffat’s writing style has, does and likely will spoil that for me. Perhaps if Karen goes, it’ll be better but the sad thing about that is that apart from some quite unsettling qualities about Amy, there are some really good bits too.
Anyway, speech over, lol………I don’t suppose I’ve explained anything more clearly and may be leaving myself open to disagreement or attack, but these are my thoughts on things.
i want to Ask with doctor
JC
How old are you?
Chill out , its not like he’s broadcasting a live sex show, Doctor Who may be a family show, but theres nothing wrong with the odd Innuendo, its the 21st century !
If you cant watch the end of Flesh and Stone because it makes you feel THAT uncomfortable, jesus you need to grow up.
I dont mean to attack you on these issues, but it really does seem like you are just looking for things to critisize
JC’s speech, had me in utter tears of laughter. If it makes you uncomfortable don’t watch it. And Kona is right, it’s a family show, my 12 year old sister and my 8 year old sister watches it and all the innuendos just go flying over their heads. The humour is for the adults rather than the children. As long as it’s like nudity or anything as bad I think it brings in more audience due to it having fantasy for the youngsters, and then the fantasy AND the humour for the adults I love it. It makes me laugh and laughter is the best.
