Rate & Discuss: Let’s Kill Hitler
In the desperate search for Melody Pond, the TARDIS lands in Berlin in the 1930s, where the Doctor comes face to face with the greatest war criminal in the universe, and friendships are tested to their limits.
The Doctor, Amy and Rory returned to our TV screens tonight as the nation killed Hitler!
Earlier this year, Doctor Who fandom was hit by one of the biggest bombshells of recent years, as the true identity of River Song was finally uncovered. But the shock revelation was just the beginning, and, after the summer break, the Doctor is back to answer all of the questions that have been spinning in our minds since June, and to ask some more…
The first port of call for our heroes was Thirties Berlin. The search for Melody continued, as they came face to face with Adolf Hitler himself. But there was but a far greater war criminal hiding in the shadows. For our beloved Time Lord, there was a harsh lesson to be learnt, and the responsibilities of being a time traveller finally caught up with him.
An almighty price was paid, but what did you make of tonight’s autumn premiere? What did you love? What did you loathe? The Doctor is back, and so are our discussions! Let us know all your thoughts in the comments below. Don’t forget to rate the episode too!
-The Doctor invites Amy, Rory, River and Canton to his death at 4:30.
-The Doctor dies at 5:02, wich is 32 minutes after.
-The Amelia Pond voice interface in Lets Kill Hitler tells The Doctor he will be dead in 32 minutes.
Definitely not a coincidence.
Also, The Doctor turns up (during the scene with the robot Amy and River taking about the doctors death and the silence) wearing the same suit he wore for Amy’s and Rory’s wedding, so maybe he travelled back to there for some reason?
Sorry, I tryed to keep that simple
@chloe
sorry but please remmind me what eipisode was the scene with the doctor a robot amy and river talking about the doctors death?
@chloe
32 minutes. That is brilliant.
@chloe
Aha! 32 minutes! You may be on to something! I also thought the tux was just for dramatic effect at first, but the more I think about it and read comments from other Whovians I’m thinking he probably had a good reason for changing!
Regarding what the Doctor whispered to Melody/River, I thought it was just something like “tell River I love her” and she was like, “I’m sure she knows”.
Or maybe that’s just the fangirl side of me who loves the idea of River and the Doctor together

I couldn’t have found a better way to say it !
@chloe
About the 32 minutes and the tuxedo : well done ! I love the idea that there is more to these facts than meets the eye !
Did anyone notice in the trailer the bow tie the Doctor is wearing is red when at lake silencio, and yet in the impossible astronaught the bow tie he wears when being killed in blue… coincidence…. no
@Michael
Probably not a coincidence. Apparently, they shot scenes for the finales while they were in Utah last year. By the way, good catch !
The tuxedo stuck me as being odd and I tried to factor it in: It wasn’t the dying doctor at the wedding, he didn’t have time to dance with everyone since he only had 32 minutes. If it was the wedding doctor in 1938 and he wasn’t actually dying, then what happened to the regeneration energy that Melody/River revived him with?
But it’s odd, since the wedding, since “weddings” came up multiple times this episode.
He totally whispered that River “was Amazing and he loved her more than anything” or something like that. But he probably doesn’t yet, he’d only kissed her once (so far!).
Did you know that there really is a Judas Tree?
The 32 minutes is REALLY interesting, but the doctor had already been poisoned for more than a few minutes before he started talking to the voice interface “Amelia”.
In The Library, at the end, what did River say The Doctor was wearing when he showed up at her door?!?!?
I thought maybe I had something for a minute, I was thinking maybe he whispered his name to her (with an I Love You). The Doctor states that there is “only one reason” he would reveal his name and that there is “only one time he could”.
She said: “I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the singing towers. ”
Unless in the UK they don’t call a Tux a Tux, they call it a suit?
@Gary LaPointe
Nope, it’s always been called a tuxedo over here
@Michael
Also worth mentioning that the Ganger Doctor wears a blue tie…? #DesperateToBackUpTheory
Loving the potential 32 minutes coincidence too, but where are people getting the reference from in TIA? How do you know they met at 4.30?
@Emerald
It says on the card when Amy opens the envelope: “22/04/2011 16:30 MDT”.
@Michael
I call lies on you. I watched the trailer, the Doctor never wears a red bow tie by the lake. The bow tie is always blue. The only time in the trailer where he is wearing a red bow tie is when he is wearing a stetson.
I’m not going to worry that much about the doctor dying. I mean it kills me to think he will die but i’m going to trust moffit this time, he will make a way for the doctor to live.
I’m only saying this ’cause I’m so confused and out of ideas.
(I hate giving up)
@Mike L
Well why would he change his tie on the same day?? (talk about a wardrobe change!!)
@chloe
Wow. I didn’t realize that. Great thinking, it is added to my list of clues. Thanks
