Doctor Who Magazine Issue #434 cover, details
Issue 434 of of Doctor Who Magazine is out this week, and inside it’s all about The Doctor’s Wife, as its writer, Neil Gaiman, talks exclusively about his anticipated episode.
“If this episode works like it’s meant to work,” he tells DWM, “you will go from curiosity, thinking ‘who is this person?’ – to amusement – ‘She’s very funny, she’s mad, oh my God, she’s biting him, she’s a bit weird!’ – to irritation – ‘Why is she so high and mighty?’ – to heartbreak, genuine, absolute real heartbreak. And to joy.”
Also inside the issue, Episodes 3 (The Curse of the Black Spot), 4 (The Doctor’s Wife) and 5/6 (The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People) are previewed with never before seen photos and exclusive interviews with their writers. Hugh Bonneville also talks about becoming a pirate, and Steven Moffat presents another edition of his Production Notes.
Meanwhile, DWM crosses the pond to interview the stars on location in Utah as they film Series 6’s opening two-parter, before taking a trip down memory lane to relive some of the Second Doctor’s adventures as part of their countdown to 2013’s 50th anniversary.
Amy finds herself trapped inside a psychedelic nightmare as the comic strip, ‘Forever Dreaming’ by Jonathan Morris, reaches its startling conclusion, while the Time Team revisit the Ninth Doctor’s battle with the Slitheen in World War Three. Plus, the Fact of Fiction present their lowdown on the Series 2 adventure, The Girl in the Fireplace.
Doctor Who Magazine goes on sale on Thursday and also comes with a double-sided poster with the Impossible Astronaut on one side and Rory and River on the other.
Sorry, but there’s only one image I want to see on the front cover, where she deserves to be, and that’s Lis Sladen, to which half the magazine could (and perhaps should) be dedicated.
The fact there isn’t even a MENTION on the cover is disgraceful.
@MetalOllie
Judging by the release date of this month’s issue, the magazine would have most likely been finalised before Lis’ death. However, there’s bound to be a section about her in this month’s issue. Also, wasn’t there a mention of a special issue dedicated to Lis and Sarah Jane?
@MetalOllie
They will be preparing a proper tribute, as opposed to rushing it into this issue; most of the contents of which would have been finalised weeks ago. Rather a proper tribute than a series of rushed articles.
@MetalOllie
This was made before she died you daft sod
*cries* I wish it had that caption with either River or myself on the cover
Isn’t there a special edition coming out about Lis?
Daft sod is suitably chastisted! Didn’t really think of that (duh!).. to be honest, I don’t think I’ve quite taken it in yet (Lis’s death).. Just such a massive shock, given no-one knew she was ill; and just how radiant did she look in the last season of SJA..
I hope next months issue really does honour her, and a special edition would be very welcome. Huge part of my childhood, and one which will be missed terribly, but remembered fondly..
Has anyone noticed that she looks like a rat?
There’s going to be special issues about Lis Sladen and Nick Courtney, I seem to recall.
Yeah, and it sounds stupid, but… Idris’ face is a bit annoying. No offence to Suranne Jones, obviously. But a pretty poor picture of her. Shame; the background (inc. Doctor) is brilliant.
Still. Always great to have a DWM on the shelves!
Ooh, must buy that when I’m out tomorrow. I really need another poster *looks at posters which have now spread to the ceiling*… or perhaps not.
