The sixth series of Doctor Who kicked off on Prime in New Zealand last week, and Karen Gillan recently spoke to the New Zealand Herald about what’s in store for Amy in her latest adventures.

While most of the interview is about the US based two-part series opener (“We’ve got Nixon, how cool is that?”), she also discusses the “big huge twist” coming up, presumably in the spring finale, A Good Man Goes to War. She teases: “When I opened up the script I went, ‘Noooo!’”.

She also comments on the future of Amy beyond Series 6, noting: “I know her time has to come to an end at some point, and I’m sure she’ll get a good send off when it does.”

Too soon? Shes been in it for two series, if she continues past series 6, shell be the longest serving companion of the new series (I think), shes had a reasonable run.

I agree that Amy’s time should come to an end. I hope by season end we have a new companion for the Doctor.

yeah you’d be right on the longest running since Billie left after 2 series even though she came back here and there towards the end…

Amy and Rory are great. I really want them to stay, but it just doesn’t seem that likely; that’s the vibe I’m getting anyway.

If Amy goes what would be the point of Rory staying cause their married. So IF Amy goes (hope she doesn’t-I don’t know why no-one seems to like her) then Rory will go as well and vice versa if Rory goes Amy will.

I’d love Amy to go, as I’d love to see a whole new companion start out again :) As long as River doesnt take over :L

I don’t know. I like Karen quite a lot, because she’s gorgeous and a bit quirky. I don’t have a problem with Amy nowadays either, I suppose, because it’s been two series and it’s comfortable now, though as most people know, I’ve had my problems with the character in the past.

So yeah, I think I’ll miss Amy when she goes, but that’s what Doctor Who is about, the Doctor finding new companions when others leave and getting to know them and that.

I really hope River’s time is over at the spring finale. I hope that Amy stays, because I really like her; she’s become way more dedicated and less flirtatious after marrying Rory, which did good to her (according to many).

Rivers time won’t be over anytime soon IMO, she’ll be around for a long while. Her and the doctor meet up in opposite directions in their timelines, so the fact that the Doctor doesn’t know her well now, indicates that he will get to know her really well in order for the whole thing to work.

She knows the doctors name (in series 4) so that would mean they have a pretty significant relationship.

Maybe River will be the next companion.

Amy has had some good moments, and was/is a decent companion, I think her story will be pretty epic in the end, I just hope the next companion is idris-awesome and not a moany-martha kind of character.

well… what about rose? she was a companion for two doctors… she has been around for a long time… I think if amy is preggers than it will put a damper on things.. I don’t think it would be as cool if a baby was tagging along in the TARDIS! I don’t think river is going anywhere anytime soon.. we still need to see how she gets the screw driver.. I think she will be there long after matt…

I think it’s time for Amy and Rory to go after this series. It’s always Amy-and-Rory, and then the Doctor off doing something else. The chemistry of the show works better when the companions are closer to the Doctor than they are to each other. I don’t know if it’s the acting or the script or a combination, but I don’t feel the Doctor’s connection with the companions like I have in other series (both Classic and New)

I really like both Amy and Rory, but considering the fact they’ll have been in it for two series come the end of this one, I’ll be very surprised if Moffat doesn’t introduce a new companion for his third run. That’s the way Who normally goes, anyway; in with the new!
