Overnight ratings show that last night’s episode of Doctor Who, The Almost People, was watched by an unofficial audience of 5.0million, a 24.4% share.

As soon as the credits rolled, the web was inundated with reviews and reactions, the majority of which were inevitably centered around the episode’s shock cliffhanger, so there’s lots of spoilers. According to the Guardian, it was “one of the most staggering reveals” in the history of the series, though they say the episode itself felt “a bit uneven”.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph have praised writer Matthew Graham for delivering a “taut, claustrophobic, sci-fi thriller”, and SFX have given the “predictable” episode a rating of 3/5. Digital Spy describe the two-parter’s climax as both “surprising and satisfying”, finishing: “Hats off to you, Who team, you’ve pulled the rug out from under us again”…

Did you enjoy The Almost People? Rate the episode and its shocking climax…

I love how both British and American people enjoy the show. I really love Doctor Who it’s what my Dad describes as the ‘best of British’ :)

Awful overnight rating but not helped by Champions League final. Next week will be worse with Euro 2012 England qualifier and Britain’s Got Talent up against Who. No hope

I don’t know how Canadian and American fans are going to be able to avoid spoilers on this one. I didn’t wait, personally, and I’m glad I didn’t. Fantastic 2-parter with an fantastic ending. But it does serve to make the “My name is Amy Pond” narration intro that has been foisted upon the North American version of the series look stupid. Will they honestly put it onto the start of the mid-season finale too?

I saw it! I am sorry for those who saw it and didn’t get quite the reaction that they should have… cliff hanger was wow! Can’t wait to see who river is! Doctor didn’t seem surprised when amy told him he was dead… at first I thought she told ganger, but when he said they switched shoes! There goes my theory about ganger being shot in epi 1… back at square one… lol!

I think that nothing can be read into the overnights or next week’s overnights due to the football.

If the time shifts are poor, then I’d start worrying.

If the figures for the Autumn episodes are up, this may give the Beeb cause for thought for re-scheduling the series back to Autumn, where I honestly think they should be.

Think Dark autumn/winter evenings, the curtains drawn in and the family gathered round to watch brilliantly scary episodes of Doctor Who.

If you so hate the show like you say you do, then you do not put in the thought level required to understand its awesomeness, and as such, the episodes make no sense and thus you hate them.

For the late spring bank holiday, with some decent weather and football in the mix, I’d not get too hung up over 5 million viewers. It’s still shown as just passed 24pc of the audience share. There’ll probably be lots of i-Player and other viewings to top up the figures and I’d be included in that.
