Original designs for Uncle and Nephew characters
Special effects artist David Bonneywell has revealed on his deviantART his original concept sketches for the characters of Uncle and Nephew from The Doctor’s Wife.
He explains that there were concerns that they would have been “a little too grotesque for the show”, so the Nephew was ultimately replaced with an Ood and his Uncle design also went unused.
What do you think of the designs? Creepy stuff!
Meanwhile, the writer of the episode, Neil Gaiman, has recently posted what he’s called “a fairly humongous Doctor Who Q&A” on his website, in which he answers several questions sent in by fans. There’s lots of interesting facts, so it’s definitely worth a read!

Did you enjoy the mid-series finale? Discuss the climax and its cliffhanger…
I see the point of it being a bit too scary for what was good character. It would make a great idea for a villain at some point
They don’t really seem scary, but they do look a bit like Davy Jones’ crew in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Scary?! This is a good scary, this is the type of stuff we need more of nowadays rather than misunderstood characters, don’t get me wrong I love it but it would be nice to have a classical who baddie and this design just really captivates that.
i like these ones but i also like the ones that were used in the end
