Russell “still speechless” about Elisabeth’s passing
Russell T Davies was interviewed on Front Row on BBC Radio 4 this evening, and during it he commented on the loss of Elisabeth Sladen and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
“We all mourned the passing of Elisabeth Sladen, which is still a shock to me, and also the passing of the programme,” he said. “I loved that show. I thought we made a beautiful, beautiful drama, and it’s so sad that it’s gone. We’ve got 6 episodes that’ll be shown in the autumn, and it’s Lis at her finest. It was such a shock, and I’m still speechless.”
He also briefly mentioned plans for the Sarah Jane production team to work together on another series in the future, but states that it wouldn’t be a Doctor Who related project.
Keep up to date with all the Miracle Day developments at our Torchwood site!
I would like to know when they plan to aire those six episodes.
@badwolfjen As usual the BBC won’t say for certain until a week or so before the broadcast, but they have announced that the final 6 will air in the fall. General feeling is they’ll air after the final episodes of Doctor Who Series 6 are broadcast, so probably late October. Doctor Who Magazine has also suggested October since the previous seasons have also aired that month.
I heard what Alex has said too that the final SJA eps would air in October after DW finishes.
I am glad Russell will be doing something with the cast in the future they are such a talented bunch!!
I always liked Sarah Jane and the crew. I’ll definitely be watching these last episodes.
I look forward to those last few episodes of SJA. SJA adventures was brilliant. One question I would have for both Mr Davies and the present Doctor Who team is this: With the end of SJA that now means Doctor Who does not have a program for the younger viewers, the stuff you’d put on CBBC, whereas older folk have Torchwood and Doctor Who- is there eventually going to be some sort of new kids Doctor Who related program?
@Vanessa What a bizarre odd comment to make. Doctor Who is and has always been a family show and not just for “older folk”. As an “older folk” myself, I find that quite insulting.
Elizabeth Sladen was amazing, a very lovely warm person who played the Doctor’s greatest companion perfectly. No one has ever come close. Her loss and the loss off Nicolas Courtney, Ian Marter, the incredible Jacqueline Hill and Michael Craze are a blow to the companions of Doctor Who.
