The first episode of Miracle Day, The New World, aired in the UK last night to an overall positive response!

According to the Independent, the “jam-packed” opening episode was “addictive to watch”, serving as reassurance that “Torchwood is here to stay”. The Telegraph has also spoken highly of the “enjoyable” first episode, summarising: “Compared with much of the rubbish that is inflicted on us in the summer, it looks set to be gripping and intriguing – just not necessarily for viewers with queasy stomachs”…

The Guardian’s commented: “It’s bigger and bolder, louder and more ambitious”, and SFX have given it a rating of 4 out of 5, describing it as a “a series worth sticking with”.

I thought the first episode was pretty good. Can’t wait to see how the series develops.

Fantastic opening episode! It goes to show now that Torchwood has found its voice in telling one story over a longer period. I’m made up at the feedback it has received so far. I’m more pleased for RTD considering the flack he received on dr who

They’ve totally ruined it, it’s been taylored to suit it’s American audience thanks to it’s new American majority investors : Starz. The UK audience 4.8 Million and the American audience not even reaching a single million? I’m not going to watch any more personally, Torchwood ended with Season 3 for me. They’ve taken all the parts that made it great, threw them out the window then glued CSI Miami into the gaps. It’s the biggest disgrace since the Red Dwarf US Pilot. Shame on the BBC, what are they going to do next, cast Jim Carrey in a new series of Black Adder? How about Adam Sandler in Doctor Who : Miami? I hope it dies a quick death so we can forget about ‘Miracle day’ and brush it under the rug like the Star Wars Christmas special.

totally agree with phibermon there although I will continue to watch in the faintest hope that I recognise something of what made Torchwood what it was. As they say “if it aint broke, don’t fix it”. So why did they try????????
