The winners of BBC Learning and Doctor Who Confidential’s Script to Screen competition have been announced!

The contest set school children aged 9-11 the task to write their own 3-minute Doctor Who script starring the Doctor and a human character of their own creation. The winning school, as chosen by showrunner Steven Moffat, Controller of BBC Learning Saul Nassé, and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis, is Oakley CE Junior School. Huge congratulations to its contributing pupils and staff!

The winners will travel down to Cardiff this weekend to see Matt Smith and the rest of the Doctor Who production team bring their adventure to life. Kevin Downing, a Year 6 teacher, has said: “It will be the experience of a lifetime and one we’ll never forget.”

“I loved the shortlisted scripts, there was so much skill and enthusiasm on display. It was actually genuinely, very, very difficult to judge,” Steven Moffat commented. “It was also very exciting how they caught the voice of the Doctor and how they used the always stringent limitations of Doctor Who to their advantage, very exciting.”

Saul Nassé added: “We’ve been delighted by the response from schools, as we really wanted to motivate children to learn new writing skills and create the next generation of storytellers. Schools have really engaged in it and there’s a wealth of talent out there. It’s an example of a popular BBC show inspiring people to do something educational.”

The finished scene will be shown on a Doctor Who Confidential episode later this year.

Typo alert, admin: you put ‘executibe’ instead of ‘executive’ in the second paragraph.

In other news, I’m still annoyed that I’m eighteen.

The brief filming report over on the official Doctor Who Twitter sounds quite good: “it’s all about one of the main character’s feet…” Looking forward to seeing it ;)
