Matt Smith has revealed that he doesn’t want to leave Doctor Who “any time soon”.

In a recent interview (via What’s on TV), he admitted: “We work very long hours every day for 9 months. The schedule is pretty brutal, but I’d never complain. I love playing this role, and I don’t want to give it up any time soon. I feel very lucky. In the current climate for actors, I’d never say, ‘This is too much’ – quite the opposite, in fact. I’d say, ‘Bring it on.’”

Matt’s just filmed the Christmas special, and filming will begin for Series 7 in February.

Love the picture! Love the news, too – I’d be happy for Matt to stay a few years longer yet.

It’s good that he’s staying for a while longer. I’ve only just started to get used to him and it’d be annoying if he had to go now, because I’d have to get used to another Doctor again.

Good news! I was rather scared by rumours he was leaving soon, I don’t want him to go for a while yet!

apparently the beebb want him to keep the role for 7 years. I hope he syays for a while longer becuase just like my nan says, once youve grown accoustomed to one doctor they leave and someone else takers the part, its better when they stay for while :)

Yay! The rumors are probably not true that he’s leaving in 2013! Tennant did four years; I’d like Smith to do four as well, if possible. And of course Tom Baker did seven! It’s nice when they’re around longer, because they get to interact with more companions, which does nice things to the dynamic.

To be honest, if the 11th Doctor regenerated soon, I can’t say I would be that bothered. That sounds bad, but it’s nothing personal against Matt himself, the 11th Doctor has shown glimmers of being a good Doctor, but I personally haven’t connected with him in the way I’d like to and have actually been more interested in his Companion.

Having said that, there were rumours last time that the casting of the Doctor was going to go radical, possibly changing his sex or race after being male and white for nearly 50 years, so perhaps Matt being the Doctor preserves who the Doctor is and always has been.

I’ll be very surprised if him leaving the role isn’t in some way part of what Moffat has planned for the 50th anniversary in 2013, but I’d be happy if he stayed on a bit longer; Smith is the best Doctor since the show came back. He’s perfect for the role.

OK Matt, now convince your co-star Alex Kingston to stay also a while longer and it will be fantastic !
