BBC Worldwide reveal Doctor Who Convention
BBC Worldwide have today confirmed that the first official Doctor Who convention will take place in Cardiff next year!
Described as the ‘ultimate Doctor Who fan event’, it will take place at the Millenium Centre in Cardiff on 24th/25th March 2012, featuring theatre sessions, Q&As, behind the scenes sessions, autograph/photo opportunities and more.
Confirmed guests so far include Matt Smith, Steven Moffat, Danny Hargreaves, Michael Pickwoad and Marcus Wilson.
Plus, the Millennium FX team will also be on hand to demonstrate their prosthetics work, while props and costumes from the series will be on display for attendees to get up close and personal to their favourite aliens, with words from the designers who made them.
“It’s brilliant that the first official convention is being held in Cardiff, the home of Doctor Who,” Matt Smith said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans there, and remember – bow ties are cool!”
Steven Moffat commented: “A whole weekend dedicated to all things Doctor Who, brilliant! We’re going to be celebrating the whole team behind the show, people who bring to life the Doctor’s craziest adventures and letting fans into some of our trade secrets. If you want to get under the skin of Doctor Who this is an unmissable event!”
Tickets for the event cost £99 and go on sale on 14th November from the official site.
My father and I are both going to be on the site at 8:59 on Monday ready to book. I’ve never been to a convention before, but this one falls in the middle of my Easter holidays and it’s got SM and MS – and that’s just for starters! Who has been to a convention? What can I expect? Assuming I get tickets, of course!
Utter c**p!!!! £99 is outrageous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
OMG I asked my mum if I could go well begged her lol and she said yes. It’s going to be the best day of my life :D x x x
I really want to go but the price to get in is just ridiculous and as much as I love Doctor Who I’d never pay that much to go to a convention plus all the other expenses you have to pay for getting a photo with Matt and Steven and other things plus I’d have to travel and that would take about 6 hours or something.
It’s quite insulting to the conventions that happened over the last 20 old years for the BBC to call this “first official Doctor Who convention”! Especially as the BBC dumped Doctor Who for years!
I live several hundred miles from Cardiff and it doesn’t fall in my school holidays. ! SO wish i could go!!!!!! Hope someone posts the best bits on Youtube!
OMG the price! we go to Cardiff all the time, but my Dad will never let me go :’( well thats my dream of meeting Matt over.
bit pricey considering you have to pay extra for a photo or an autograph from each guest ,dont think i can afford it this time around as much as i would love to go!!
Sorry, don’t the BBC release there is a recession on?
I’d love to go but it’s just far too expensive for me, especially to include travel, and then to pay more for photos and autographs! Nah, I’ll just stay home and watch the DVDs for hours and pretend I was there.
@Emerald
i like it.
Would anyone do me the best honor of making me happy this Christmas and giving me 2 tickets? ;)
OMG I HAVE TICKETS :DD
Anyone having problems go via the Conventions twitter site and follow the links on their x x x
£99? and Cardiff? Do none of these dr.who events ever happen in Scotland?
I guess Matt and co couldnt possibly sing 1000++ photos. But hey, why don’t the organisers get the cast to pre sign them so everybody can get one even if they don’t meet the cast? If they paid £99 they deserve at least that
I will give Matt my autograph in return
