With the next Doctor announcement imminent Peter Capaldi has emerged as the hot favourite to take the coveted role.

As the Telegraph claim over the last few days bookmakers have seen a surge of bets on the actor to be unveiled as the new incarnation of the Time Lord during the live reveal show on BBC One tomorrow (Sunday) night from 7pm.

Peter’s on odds of 5-6 and is leading “a three way race” with Rory Kinnear and Daniel Rigby.

Peter previously guest starred as Caecilius in Series 4 The Fires of Pompeii, and then played John Frobisher in Torchwood’s Children of Earth. He has revealed he’s a huge fan of the Doctor while Rory Kinnear, who has odds of 5-1 and insists he’s “certain” he won’t be taking over the TARDIS, has admitted he’s “never watched” an entire episode…

Daniel Rigby (4-1) is known for Eric & Ernie, Black Mirror and the UK BT advertisements.

Above – Peter Capaldi, Rory Kinnear and Daniel Rigby are the top three contenders.

Tomorrow night the guessing will be over as the Twelfth Doctor is unveiled to the world…

Daniel Rigby?………No. Every time I watched the show, I’d be thinking of him as the bloke in the BT adverts.

Peter Capaldi being the 12th Doctor would mean he saved himself in Pompei.

Still, Karen Gillan was also at Pompei, so……

I think I’d prefer to see a curve ball thrown. “Introducing the twelfth Doctor… TOM BAKER!!”" Clap…clap… what? And then we have to wait until November to figure out what’s going on.

Peter Capaldi does look the best choice.
I would rather him than Rory Kinear he woudnt suit the role I think.
And as for Daniel Rigby, much as I love the BT adverts this would never work out!
I do like Rob’s idea of a curveball, that would be interesting!

The difference between Karen Gillan and Peter Capaldi being in the Pompeii episode is that Peter played a larger role than Karen did. I honestly don’t think the Doctor should be be played by an actor who has already been established as a secondary character in a previous episode. My bet is on some unknown guy, though I would love if Tom Hiddleston got the part (as unlikely as that is =( ).

@Doctor Marik I am afraid your argument has been blown out of the water – Colin Baker appeared in Peter Davison’s story Arc Of Infinity!

    @Doctor Marik
About a person appearing in previous episodes not allowed to be the Doctor, well
That’s not exactly true, remember Colin Baker? Before he was the sixth Doctor he played Commander Maxill in the Classic Doctor Who episode Arc of Infinity in 1983, One year before he became the Doctor, and the role of Commander Maxill was a significant one, he shot the Doctor!

Really? Hm, I was unaware of that regarding Colin Baker, then again I am ignorant to a lot of the classic Doctor Who stuff, something which I’m trying to fix =P.
