Torchwood will be returning to the airwaves in the form of a brand new audio series, it has been announced.

Big Finish will be overseeing the new production which will consist of six original adventures exploring the impact that a mysterious event has on the team. As always, the festivities will be led by Captain Jack Harkness, as portrayed by John Barrowman who previously confirmed earlier this year that the audio plays were in development.

Part one, The Conspiracy, will be released in September.

“Torchwood has been to the Moon, and America, and the Himalayas,” Torchwood’s creator and former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies said. “Now, it’s finally coming home.”

Additional cast members are to be finalised. The remaining five instalments will be released monthly from January 2016. Are you glad that Torchwood is finally returning? Let us know!

The TV series has been “in limbo” since its fourth series, Miracle Day, was aired in 2011.

    I have very mixed feelings.

I was a Torchwood fan before Miracle Day and loved the relationships between the team of Series 1 and 2 and I have to admit, as an aspiring writer, I’d be happy to write for Torchwood in any format, but as a fan, I find the new developments quite sad.

Whilst I respect Big Finish for the quality of their productions and the colossal amounts of money they charge for new releases, I just think Torchwood deserves to be on the screen, not recorded into a microphone.

I don’t know. I can read Torchwood or I can watch Torchwood, but I have a lot of difficulty listening to it. It feels like a half measure because RTD and possibly the BBC won’t bring the show back properly.

When announcements like this come out, people act like Torchwood is back, but sadly for me, it really isn’t. It’ll be back when it’s back on our screens with a cast and stories that we can really invest in again.

Until then, sadly and unfortunately, these radio plays and Big Finish audio stories don’t interest me at all.
