Patrick Ness has been talking about his new Doctor Who spin off in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Earlier this month it was announced that the popular Young Adult fiction author has created a new tie-in series, entitled Class, which will be aired on BBC Three next autumn. While details are still scarce, and will no doubt remain so until filming commences in the spring, he did reveal that it won’t feature Jenna Coleman as the Doctor’s outgoing companion Clara Oswald, despite the fact it will be set at Coal Hill School where she currently works as an English teacher.

“I’ve already tweeted that, so I don’t think I’m breaking anyone’s confidence,” he said. “But I want to show the world new stuff. That’s what I aim for, to shock you all with something new. The idea is to take everything that I love about YA, which is the breadth and depth of it and its fearlessness, and just put that on television in the Doctor Who universe. It will be for teenagers but the best YA reaches beyond that, so it will reach beyond its boundaries.”

What are your initial thoughts on Class? Were you hoping to see Clara involved somehow?
