Paul Cornell, Tom MacRae returning for Series 6?
The agency profiles for two previous Doctor Who writers have been updated with evidence to suggest that they’ll both be returning for its sixth series, the filming for which commences at the beginning of next month.
Paul Cornell (Father’s Day, Human Nature, The Family of Blood) is writing an episode for ‘DOCTOR WHO 6′, which, interestingly, has a 60-minute running time, while Tom MacRae (Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel) has a Doctor Who script ’in development’.
While this doesn’t serve as solid confirmation that they’ll both be lending their creativity for Matt Smith’s second series, it does seem likely. Showrunner Steven Moffat has, however, recently revealed that they are still verifying its final list of writers.
The current series concludes tonight with The Big Bang at 18:05 on BBC1/HD.
Paul Cornell also wrote Human Nature/The Family of Blood which is by far and away my favorite story of the 10th Doc era. Superb stuff that as was Father’s Day so yes would definitely look forward to more of his work.
I was confused as to Cornell not being used over the last few years as both stories, and, of course, Human Nature/Family of Blood in particular, were crackers. Especially as other writers who have, in my view, provided lesser stories keep being asked back.
This is brilliant. I really wish Paul Cornell wrote for series 5. All his past scripts have been fantastic. I agree with you TWWL, He should have been used more.
I’m also pleased Tom McRae will return for series 6 as well. He wrote the brilliant Cybermen two parter in 2006. Was meant to do a script for series 4, but was rejected and replaced by MIDNIGHT.
Has anyone got any other theories on writers for series 6? So far we (provisionally) have Neil Gaiman, Tom McRae and Paul Cornell. I also think Gareth Roberts and Richard Curtis will be dead certs again…
@TWWL Same here, I was really surprised that Paul didn’t get to write for Series 5. But I’m absolutely thrilled that it looks like he’s set to write for Series 6!!
I’d like to see Richard Curtis come back at some point, I’m not sure how possible that’ll be for Season 6, but at some point would be good because I enjoyed “Vincent and The Doctor”
Paul would be a fantastic choice for next year’s series. Tom, however, is a bit harder to judge, considering how he’s only written one televised story in the past and even that was re-written quite a bit by RTD (says a lot about why it was so awful). But, I think they could afford to take a risk next series after this year’s was as fantastic as it was.
