The final ratings for Series 5 have been released, and its climax was watched by an official audience of 6.7million.

6.12million tuned in for The Big Bang on BBC1 on 26th June, with an additional 0.58million on the HD channel. Now that we have the finalized figures for all 13 episodes, we can see that Matt Smith’s debut series averaged around 7.76million – a fantastic result for the cast and crew which shows that, despite the hot weather and World Cup competition, Doctor Who is still as strong as ever!

With filming for Series 6 set to kick off imminently, it’s an exciting time to be a Whovian!

Don’t forget that you can still leave your finale thoughts and post any unanswered questions you may have in our discussion for the episode.

    Not bad! Add everyone who watched from outside Britain and I’m sure it would be significantly higher. And of of course everyone who watched *ahem* online… Copyright laws? What?

    Well, I don’t really know what to say except I expected this, perhaps not quite this bad, but I did unfortunately.

    I agree the programe is still doing great despite the great weather and rubbish football. I’m afraid times have changed people like me prefer to tape programes and watch them later.

    I have loved Series five. I’m sad that it’s all over for now. You can’t please everyone and that’s a fact. I still can’t understand this ratings lark.

    If you like a programe then watch it.

    I blame papers like the Daily Mail causing trouble.

    the bigest surprise for me was my Dad. He is a fan (But not as big as me) He has not a lot of Dr who since it came back in 2005. But since Smith took over the Tardis he has watched it every single week and he likes him.

    DT got 6.2 million viewers for some of his stories but people like JC didn’t complain. but now Matt is, oh it’s a catstophe, as if. Dr who is watched all over the world, for goodness sake.

    I don’t.

    (That’s almost a joke, if you squint)

    Many people have worried about this years figures, but they’ve been fine. Have they always reached Tennant proportions? No, but he gradually became a huge star and drew people in, perhaps Smith will do the same. And if he doesn’t, who cares, six to seven million, in this modern TV age, is still a great audience. Even more so if you take audience share, the percentage of people actually watching TV at that time, into account.

    @TWWL
    There we don’t disagree actually TWWL, I won’t mind if Matt Smith beats Tennant in the ratings one day, cos we can assume that will happen if he stays long enough, because whatever the ratings, people have their own opinions.

    But since these figures are made public, I thought I’d add my opinion, as much of a mistake as that’s unfortunately proved to be.

    JC, you’re perfectly fine to post whatever you want, but you always get quite defensive if others disagree with you; relax already! It’s what places like this are designed for; to discuss Dr Who and air our own opionons! I’m not attacking you or your opinion, I’m just giving my own take on the matter.

    I’ve always found your opinion to be fair, even when different to mine TWWL. Perhaps I do get a bit defensive about my point of view and I shouldn’t really because it’s a TV show at the end of the day.
