Silences, Rivers and Songs – Series 6 discussion

It was in The Eleventh Hour we were first told of the mysterious silence, but we’re still no closer to finding out what it is, or, more importantly, what’s behind it…

Steven Moffat has promised us that all of our questions will be answered in Series 6, and we’ve been left with plenty of clues to dissect until it hits our screens! What ominous figure could possibly blow up the TARDIS, and what could be their motives for doing it? We’ve also heard what’s seemingly their voice – does it sound at all familiar?

Could it have anything to do with River Song, who’s identity we’ll also discover next year? In The Big Bang she told the Doctor that everything will change when he finally learns who she is – not the most inviting of prophecies, and we’re sure you’ve all got your own weird and wonderful theories whizzing aimlessly through your Doctor Who obsessed minds. So, it’s about time we gave you somewhere to share them, isn’t it?

Feel free to speculate the remaining nights until Christmas away on this post, a link to which will be posted on the sidebar so you can check back to see what our other visitors make of this ever-growing series arc. People say silence is a virtue, but something tells us things will be far from virtuous for the Doctor when this particular one takes over…

We think/hope “Silence will Fall” character is Omega making a comeback. I read one heck of an idea from @Jeffrey__Scott http://jeffreysg.blogspot.com/2010/06/who-is-river-song.html

You’re right. I love River to . . . but I think she may have already realised her mistake and turned to the good side that’s possibly why she kept apologizing to the doctor – but then I suppose she could be apologizing to the valeyard???? Hmmmm . . . .

I don’t think River kills the Doctor. I base it on this one thing – Rememeber the handcuffs comment at the end of the Angels episode? Sounds to me like the Doctor was with her some other time (not the library) where handcuffs were used…probably when she was hauled off to prison for killing the “very good man.”

I’m actually sort of creeped out now: “You will see the Doctor’s life change forever, you will gasp in astonishment at the true nature of his relationship with Amy and you will cry out in horror as Rory Williams stumbles to the brink of a tragic mistake” (from Digital Spy, from DWM).

What could this possibly mean: Amy and the Doctor fall in love and Rory discovers the truth about River Song and/or “the Silence”?

Pretty sure SM does NOT mean that Amy and the Doctor fall in love. Maybe she’s his kid or something but I don’t – I really don’t expect a romance there (well, unless she is River and I don’t think she is River).

I’m thinking Amy Pond and River Song are actually the same person. Amy is the much younger River and this helps explain a few things like River giving Amy the Blank Diary, Why she didn’t first recognize the previous Doctor but did this one, and a few other comments River has made about the Doctor’s general appearance. Pond to River… Just a theory.

Oh, and you’ll note they are both redheads..

…and Amy picked up lock picking at some time and River is a bit of “skilled” thief…

I saw some interview where a guy asked SM about it. I don’t remember what was said at all, but I do remember thinking SM sort of indicated they are not the same person. Regarding the diary…it was blue and looked like a Tardis and was given to jog Amy’s memory. It was also returned to River – so it’s not like Amy started up her own Diary with it.

The producers do tend to leave a number of clues about for the observant. Donna Noble was a good example…even her name was a major clue.

I figure that as they repeatedly say, time can be rewritten. Also, SM doesn’t seem afraid to do Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey things. Nothing would surprise me and no past event is safe.
