A Christmas Carol Region 1 DVD/Blu-ray release set

It has been confirmed that this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, will be released on DVD/Blu-ray in the US and Canada on February 15th 2011!
Like its UK release, it will include Confidential and Doctor Who at the Proms 2010 as special features. The SRP for the DVD will be $14.98 (US) and $18.74 (Canada), while the Blu-ray will be $19.89 (US) and $24.95 (Canada). The festive episode airs on BBC America at 9pm/8c on Christmas Day, and in Canada on SPACE on Boxing Day at 9pm ET.

I’m actually uncertain whether I’ll get this one. I usually try to avoid double-dips, and unless BBC Video/2 Entertain changes how it’s been doing things since 2005, I would imagine the special and the Proms will also be included in the Season 6 set. That said, with the split season there’s no way to tell if they’ll be sticking to the same sort of schedule, so if it ends up being spring of 2012 before a box set release comes together, it might be worth getting this now. Hmmm… I’ll have to think about it. The McGann TV movie comes out the week before, too, so it’ll be a busy couple weeks.
