“Harrowing” choices set to test the Doctor and Amy
Matt Smith has revealed that the Doctor and Amy’s friendship will be put to the ultimate test in the forthcoming series.
“The Doctor and Amy are faced with some really harrowing and seismic choices about their relationship and who they are, and why they are important together,” the Eleventh Doctor actor told BANG Showbiz. The comments echo his previous revelation that “cataclysmic choices” will be faced at the end of the Episode 7 cliffhanger.

“Harrowing choices” hmmm quite chilling to think about. I have a feeling that one of them (most likely Amy) will have to betray the doctor, for something much bigger than The Doctor needs to know. Actually thinking about it I think it will be Amy who betrays the doctor because in the trailer Amy says “You have to do this and you can’t ask why”
Just an idea anyway
OMG1 OMG! i hope that they get together!!
@charlotte
But she’s MARRIED! To RORY! They CAN’T get together without promoting some seriously bad models for kids to follow, and let’s remember that Doctor Who is a family show. Even if Rory died (for real this time) then episode 7 would be too quick for her to move on, surely.
I personally think @pirko’s probably got it right. Betrayal would definitely be harrowing. How about adding another element: she has to betray the Doctor in order to save Rory? I would love to see an episode where River is working to save the Doctor but Amy is working to save Rory and it’s not possible that both succeed.
(Of course, I’d then only be happy if both actually did succeed at the end, but still!)
@TSG @pirko
That’s a good theory, but that would be a really sad show. That could be the cliff hanger- what will she do? But probably not
@Rose Weasley
It would be sad, but so have a lot of other eps. Vincent and the Doctor didn’t actually save Vincent from his mental illness, in the end. Doomsday – well, it’s in the title. Amy’s Choice was heartbreaking. And those are three of my favourite episodes.
You’re right, though, it would be a helluva cliffhanger. Way to leave the public – who’s going to die? Much better if it’s WILL someone die? That leaves a lot of room for hope.
Ok, scrap my “inevitable that one of them dies” thing. Still, I think I might write it!
Then again…maybe Rory could do the betrayal unwittingly? Maybe he could be corrupted by the silence
lol it doesn’t look right in the promo when theres 3 ov em there and amy sais ‘you have to do this and you can’t ask why’ ha ha
but srsly it does say in another series 6 spoiler, moffat said that ‘you will gasp in astonishment at the true nateure of his (the doctor) relationship with Amy and you will cry out in horror as Rory tumbles into a tragic mistake’
@pixie
Ooooooooooh! Hadn’t heard that one. And I always thought the Doctor just saw Amy as a child – hence the constant slips into ‘Amelia’. I didn’t think it was anything more complicated than that.
I know this won’t happen because it would be cruel and unbelievable, but how brilliant would it be if River killed the Doctor and Amy kills Rory (hence the tragic mistake he stumbles into), both under the influence of the Silence?
