Steven Moffat has revealed that he isn’t completely against the idea of bringing former companions back to Doctor Who.

During a recent interview with Gothamist, the showrunner admitted that he’d particularly like to write for Captain Jack Harkness again, explaining: “Jack, who I wrote in the show, I’d love to have him back. I was thinking he should really be here recently but he’s busy. People talk as if somewhere there’s been some schism. There isn’t an intentional line at all. There’s no idea that we’re abandoning anything.”

He continued: “There are references to Davies’ characters – we just had a reference to Rose, in fact. In my head there is always a continuing story. The Doctor moves on from people in a rather scary but inevitable way. He won’t be nearby forever.”

Would you like to see any former companions again? Are there any you think shouldn’t return? John Barrowman has said he’d return “at the drop of a hat”, while Freema Agyeman has suggested that the door is always open for Martha to come back.

I think one of the things I dont like about the new series is the total lack of continuity from the previous series :L I agree maybe bringing old companions back over and over was quite tiresome but a couple of references would be nice! I’m glad Moffat isnt ruling out bringing back any companions because I would love to see it (I know SJ met Eleven and I thought that was great) so I really am hoping he runs into Jack or Martha and Mickey or someone in future episodes :)

Reference to Rose? Where was/is that?

As for Jack coming back, yeah, why not? He’s fun and, besides in Utopia, uncomplicated. The problem with bringing Rose back was that it really felt like she was being dragged back. You’ve locked her in an alternate universe – that’s pretty final. And yet she came back. Jack doesn’t have those issues – he’s floating round the universe, conveniently based in present-day Cardiff, and he’s probably great to write, too.

Maybe the reference to Rose was in what they were filming for series 6?

Rose doesn’t need to come back. Love her, but she’s done. Martha wasn’t my favorite companion but it would be fun to have her return as well. And if Donna could come back that would be amazing but I don’t think you can recreate the chemistry she and the 10th Doctor had.

Jack on the other hand HAS to come back. Watching him and Amy together would utterly make my life. ahaha
