The Impossible Astronaut has been named as the UK’s most recorded television event of all time!

According to Kantar Media, Series 6’s opening episode was recorded by a record breaking 4.11million people, who went on to watch it within the first week of its transmission. The last programme to hold the record was the 2010 Christmas Day episode of Come Fly With Me, which was recorded by 3.29million people. Episodes of The X Factor, EastEnders and Coronation Street are also included on the Top 10.

Edward Russell, series Brand Manager, said: “We’ve known for some time that the way audiences are watching TV would change, so these figures are proof. The fact that Doctor Who is at the forefront of the new viewing habits makes us all proud!”

Overall, Episode 1 of Series 6 was watched by an official audience of 8.86million. We’d just like to congratulate the entire cast and crew on yet another brilliant achievement!

Now we see where the rest of the ratings went, it was a hot and sunny day. So people recorded it.

That is pretty darn incredible. I always hope that Doctor Who will beat the ratings of stuff like Britain’s got Talent and X-Factor. It certainly deserves to.

I hafta wonder, though… How much of that figure is just fans wanting to watch it over and over?! That’s what I’m doing!
