Rate & Discuss: The Time of the Doctor
Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them, the Doctor.
It was the end of a mighty era tonight as the Eleventh Doctor faced his final curtain call…
The Name of the Doctor was followed by The Day of the Doctor but this Christmas it was all about The Time of the Doctor as Matt Smith prepared to hand over the TARDIS duties to our new hero, Peter Capaldi. It was a climactic adventure four years in the making as various arcs were tied up to make way for a new Time Lord. But was it a worthy climax?
Christmas in the TARDIS is always an eventful time but this year the drama was pushed to new levels as a menagerie of monsters returned and the Doctor found himself caught up in a terrible battle. Not everyone got out alive as the Doctor was aided by old friends but his fate was already sealed by a timey-wimey trap that started to close around him.
The clock strikes 12 and a new journey has begun but did Matt’s swansong adventure do justice to his tenure as a whole? Our emotions ran high and there were some last minute surprises, but do you agree with Jenna Coleman who has said it was the “perfect” way to say goodbye? Join in the conversation and let us know. Raggedy man, we salute you!

@clara yes this is true, someone should make a knock off though
I was watching Torchwood last night and realised something.
The 12th Doctor may look like John Frobisher (Torchwood) and Caecilius (Doctor Who), but the War Doctor looks exactly like John Hurt.
See these lines from Torchwood Series 1:
TOSH: Why are you so bothered? Whoever did this is hardly a threat to society any more.
OWEN: Yeah, I know. It’s just, there’s something. Does that remind you of anything?
TOSH: Er, that bit in Alien where that thing bursts out of John Hurt?
OWEN: I’m sorry, I should have been more specific. Does that remind you of anything helpful?
John Hurt as an actor exists in the Torchwood universe, which used to be part of the Doctor Who universe before events in the 11th Doctor Era and Torchwood: Miracle Day separated themselves.
As such, the War Doctor looks exactly like John Hurt.
i love doctor who WHOS WITH ME
so i have wanted to talk to peaple about doctor who for SOO long shall we
I am so sad that Matt is no longer playing the Doctor. I’ll miss him. :(
Beautiful! Absolutely amazing! Oh my god! I’m such a nerd!
ill also miss him :( @Eliza
I wonder how many doctors there will be in the actual end?
@gracethecrafter1
you know you said: ‘I love doctor who WHOS WITH ME’ Well, if we didn’t all love doctor who, what would be the point on being on this forum? APART from if you’re a troll!
hey, did you guys know that the new series (series 8) of doctor who is coming out in august and you can watch the trailer on YouTube.
@Zacary
@Eliza
I didn’t exactly like matt smith but he is an ok actor and also if you think you are a nerd you can ask me any question what-so-ever and I can guarantee you I will get 99.9% of the questions right.
First of all I loved Matt Smith (not as much as David Tennant though). The time of the doctor was an amazing episode and probably one of my favorites with the 11th doctor. I didn’t cry (like I did when the 10th turned into the 11th)but it was pretty sad. I started watching this show about 4 months ago and caught up with every single episode, I love doctor who.

I think that what happened in the River-song’s Wedding episode should have happened in the angels of Manhattan episode. Also I think that there will be another generation of Doctors because of the following reasons 1. The Doctor didn’t know how to fly the Tardis 2 all 12 doctors are used up so now the Time-lords have granted not just one more Doctor its one more generaton of doctors.
this is for doctor who fans
I think I may have missed something, looking back on the end of Series 6.
DOCTOR: Suppose there was a man who knew a secret. A terrible, dangerous secret that must never be told. How would you erase that secret from the world? Destroy it forever, before it can be spoken.
How does that match up to The Time of The Doctor?
Silence had to fall so he didn’t release the Time Lords and restart the Time War. He didn’t know Gallifrey and the Time Lords were safe at this point and anyway, how does releasing the Time Lords and Gallifrey relate to silencing a terrible, dangerous secret?
As I say, since the Doctor didn’t know Gallifrey and the Time Lords were safe, what did he think needed to be silenced instead?
Guys I think Clara is going to die this series. She was in heaven with that robot. If you don’t think it’s her, look at the necklace she wears, and notice when she says “My boyfriend” (ruling out River) and “Like his new accent” (again ruling out River who couldn’t have known he regenerated)
QED guys.
Clara’s gonna die.
I thought it was an amazing episode, Matt and Jenna’s acting is perfected and completely believable.We will miss you Matt!!!

@Patrick
At the end of season 8, Missy appears and I think that the shadow was her escaping from Gallifrey within the secondary/pocket universe.
I loved this episode, but I cried when 11 regenerated. I’m gonna miss Matt and his chin! At least now we have eyebrows to look forward too. How do you feel about Peter Capaldi?
Why did they have to go back to old men? David, Matt, and Peter D. were young so younger girls could dream about them without feeling weird because the age gap was a little smaller. But then they jumped back to 50+ year old men. Why?
