Official Convention goes down a storm in Cardiff!
It has been an exciting time for Whovians as of late. Not only were we told who the Doctor’s next companion will be, but last weekend will go down in the history books, as it marked the first ever official Doctor Who Convention!
Thousands of fans from all corners of the globe (as BBC News reports, there were visitors from the US and New Zealand – now that’s dedication!) descended on Cardiff Bay for the unmissable event, which was hosted marvellously by the Wales Millenium Centre, as featured in the series.
Lucky attendees got the chance to have autograph and photograph opportunities with stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, as well as showrunner Steven Moffat. Other familiar faces from the series, including Nick Briggs and Raquel Cassidy, were on hand to meet and greet with the fans, who were also given insights into how the magic is made through cast and crew panels, costume exhibitions and prosthetic demonstrations.
Of course, Doctor Who fans don’t do things by halves, and there were lots of brilliant costumes on display, as well as some bow ties and Fezes fit to rival the Doctor himself…

According to the Guardian, the event has put the show “on perfect trajectory” ahead of its 50th anniversary, and Wales Online have described it as an overall “extravaganza”.
Were you at the Convention? How’d you get on? Share your experiences in the comments, and you can tweet us pics, videos and thoughts @WhovianNet!
I really want to go there but does anyone know if it’s there permanently? and what days the event is on?
@Patrick
It was a one-off thing, I’m afraid. It was last Saturday and Sunday, with extra TARDIS tours on Monday.
I went, and it was the most amazing thing. If anyone wants to see a vlog with my thoughts, search TheProcrastinators5 on YouTube.
ah thats a real shame, i thought it was going to be there permanently? or was that just the doctor who experience then?
@Patrick
It’s the Experience you’re thinking of.
It would physically be impossible for a convention to be a permanent thing, because how would the guests be there every weekend? There are though apparently plans for another next year, so you’ve still got a chance.
