The final day of 2013 is here so join us as we set our brains to nostalgia to go on a journey back to the start of what has undisputedly been ‘The Year of the Doctor’!

But where do we even start!? Probably at the beginning! The adventures continued in the Spring as the Doctor burst on to screens for 8 fantastical adventures – it was third time lucky for Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, who returned to aid the Doctor against Ice Warriors, Mrs Gillyflower’s Sweetville Mill, plus the odd Cyberman or two!

The mysteries of the impossible girl were answered in the series finale, The Name of the Doctor, which also introduced us to another enigmatic character from the Doctor’s past… himself! And thus began months of speculation and anticipation, as fans eagerly awaited the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, which dawned on 23rd November…

As fans around the world all did their bit to contribute to the show’s landmark festivities, appreciation for our beloved Time Lord was at an all time high, and after months of build up, the coveted celebrations culminated in a feature-length episode. Featuring the return of David Tennant and Billie Piper, this historic special also played host to several further surprises as it was simulcast on TV and 3D cinemas in over 90 countries. For one shining moment, Whovians united to #SaveTheDay and the Doctor literally took over the world!

We didn’t have long to recover from the dramatic developments before the Doctor’s now traditional Christmas escapade – in The Time of the Doctor, our hero’s 50th anniversary year reached its climax as it was always going to: with a bang. In the UK over 10 million of us joined the Eleventh Doctor for his final moments. But the end is just the beginning!

And that is 2013, in a bigger on the inside nutshell! We encountered new and old friends and foes alike, said goodbye to our current Doctor and even met a secret one!
