Paul McGann has affirmed his high hopes for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor as he predicts he will become “the best of the lot”.

The actor, who portrayed the eighth incarnation of the iconic character in the 1996 TV film, told Yahoo that Peter has all the makings of a truly classic Time Lord.

“He is a brilliant choice,” he explained. “He just is the Doctor – with his combination of steel and comedy and intelligence. He’s a super brain, Peter. We all know how good he is.”

Paul’s own tenure in the TARDIS was short lived but he surprised fans last year when he made an unannounced return in The Night of the Doctor, a short mini-episode to build up to the 50th anniversary. “That happened very quickly,” he reminisced. “Steven Moffat got in touch then I was in Cardiff the following week! It was such a big decision to make, but I’m so glad I did it.” He added: “Sometimes it is better when you do things quickly.”

And would he ever be interested in another comeback? “Why wouldn’t I?” he said. “If it’s of that quality, why wouldn’t I want to do it? There’s always these kinds of rumours – but that’s all they ever are. It’s ultimately down to Steven to decide what they will do next…”

More Eighth Doctor as long as it doesn’t interfere or take away from the current production of the on going series.

i didn’t really like the movie, and hated counting it as a regeneration because i thought it was wasted, he only had 12! but i also think that ‘The Night of the Doctor’ redeemed his doctor in my eyes. it was short but sweet and showed that if he had had series like the rest of them he would have been a good doctor. I would n’t mind if he came back but only as long as it was well written and wasn’t just for the sake of having a multiple doctor episode.

I agree with Joe, I’d love to see more 8th Doctor, but I can’t see how that’ll ever be possible, especially now we’ve seen him regenerate.

It’s a shame Steven shot down the idea of an Eighth Doctor miniseries (although he did do it quite respectfully and with praise for Big Finish), because I’d really love to see one.
Still, I’ll always be grateful that he listened to the little fanboy voice in his head that screamed “we need a regeneration scene for the Eighth Doctor!”

Looking back on 2013, I often wonder why they did the War Doctor and did not give Paul McGann that part. It would have made more sense.

@Steve In DWM, Steven said he just couldn’t see destroying Gallifrey as something the Eighth Doctor would do (which is kinda interesting since he’s shown interest in peripheral media, even canonised Big Finish, but the Eighth Doctor destroyed Gallifrey in a novel series).
I’m not supporting the decision, I’m just saying, that’s why. b=

Even with Moffat’s decision, it’s intriquing that the 8th Doctor tried to save Davros in the first year of the Time War and then withdrew from it.

I can’t imagine, though, how the Doctor could separate himself from the Time War, as it raged around him.

So wait, it was the 8th Doctor that saw Davros fly in to the jaws of the Nightmare Child?

    @Doctor Marik

That’s what I assume. During Night of The Doctor, the 8th Doctor is rejected for being a Time Lord because of the Last Great Time War. He says he has nothing to do with the war and that he’s one of the good ones.

However, I suppose its possible that we saw the 8th Doctor right at the beginning of the war and the War Doctor was born during that first year and that it was he that tried to save Davros.

Personally, I have trouble believing the War Doctor would try to save Davros, considering the 8th Doctor chose the War Doctor to be a warrior, to fight on the front lines, during which he gained the legend of the Oncoming Storm from the Daleks.

I’d like to see a double or triple (or more) Doctor reunion! Every time they did it in the past it was a huge hit! I’d really love to see Paul, Chris, David, Matt, and Peter! Even if they can’t get them all…some would be great!

Personally I think they owe it to the fans after the dismal turn the series took during Moffat’s tenure!
